I think conventional wisdom is that fluoro sinks and will keep the lure nose down or keep from getting up on plane quickly.  Not necessarily the case, I’ve used it but prefer co-poly.

I get where you are going with this.   I would say that the lift of the blade on a buzzbait, IMO would far out weight any tendency for the buzzbait to nose down during retrieve due to the density of the line being used, also the head / tie point typically is running under water during the retrieve of these baits so not sure line density counts for much here.

 

Co-poly line seems like a very good choice for these baits.  I use a high quality low stretch mono and it works well.  Braid works well also if you don't mind the occasional tangle with the bait.

I don't understand the use of fluoro in this application. I always thought of fluoro as the choice in sensitivity techniques like jigs, Texas rigs,dropshot etc. I see no benefit to using it on a topwater outfit..in fact in my opinion fluoro is to pricey to waste on a no feel technique. Maybe he's just helping sell more line..which is understandable.

I have landed many more fish then I have missed using braid on a buzzbait. Like literally 30:1 or better.

I only use braid for buzzbait’s I also use a 7’6 m/h moderate rod. Absolutely love it I catch probably 95% of my bites.

Always 17lb XL mono on my buzzers for years and no problems.

I use 15#Invisx without any issue.  I only throw Cavitrons.

To answer a question from above, what surprised me is that flouro is generally thought to sink thus potentially inhibiting the action of the buzzbait. I've always thrown mine on a good quality mono or sometimes braid. As mentioned above, flouro seems a bit spendy for that application IMHO tpp.

I don't remember ever throwing it on co-poly so I'll have to give that a try.

I don't believe Flouro would present any issues with a buzzbait as it's a simple bait to use......get it up on plane.

 

Ideally, a decent retrieve rate baitcaster would be choice and would hide perceived shortcomings of Flouro. Imo

There aren't any shortcomings using fluoro, only gains that using a better line bring.  Fluoro won't drag a buzzbait under.  If it does, the bait is flawed.  As far as being expensive, it outlasts mono by years, and if I can throw a buzzbait on the same rig I throw a spinnerbait, then I save on the rod and reel.

No negatives in my eyes with fluoro for buzzers. It’s all I use for them most days, and the big positive is it keeps me from having to respool some other outfit to dedicate to buzzing ?

I see no reason to use fluoro - I see it being recommended because pros probably aren't paying for their line.  I use 30 lb braid and I can't say I have ever missed a fish with a buzz bait.  Buzz baits have a pretty solid hookup ratio. 

 

Considering the weakness of fluoro knots I also don't see any use in using it...  Fluoro and Mono stretch significantly and I throw buzz baits over some crazy cover and with braid I can easily yank them through.  Have your drag set properly and no problems should occur - I set mine loose and use my thumb on the spool much of the time anyway.
