Super User BrianMDTX Posted July 28, 2020 Super User Posted July 28, 2020 ...is how many? is it really one last cast? Two? Five? More? I always seem to say “one last cast”, and then the bait either didn’t land exactly where I wanted, or I see one more spot to try, etc. I bet my “ last cast” is probably 20-30 minutes of fishing. 4 1 1 Quote
Hook2Jaw Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I've been able to hold myself to ten more casts. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 28, 2020 Super User Posted July 28, 2020 I'm usually heading in and then it occurs to me that I havent hit the dam yet . I usually pick up a few more fish at the dam . Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted July 28, 2020 Super User Posted July 28, 2020 Usually depends on a few factors including how many I’ve caught and if I’ve caught a good one on the trip. Otherwise time is often a factor, or even how I feel that day. Much easier to walk away if I landed a nice fish earlier on the trip, or as my last fish. If not, then it often depends on how many I’ve caught. I like ending on certain numbers as targets. If I get one, I want two. If I have more than two, I want five. More than 5, I want 10...then 12, 15, 20, 24, 25, etc. Was able to walk away today at 22 figuring I’d leave the other half of the lake unpressured for tomorrow ? 1 Quote
Bluegillslayer Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 If I catch one on the "last cast" I leave, If I dont I keep casting untill I get one. Quote
Super User king fisher Posted July 29, 2020 Super User Posted July 29, 2020 I can eat just one chip, tell just one joke, drink just one bear, play just one more hand of poker. One last cast? Not possible. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted July 29, 2020 Super User Posted July 29, 2020 Ron Hammet a local club pro earned the name as "Last Cast" and named his boat as Last Cast. Why he won toyrnaments making that last cast and the last boat to weigh in. I remember getting home late because making that last cast took hours. Why are you so late? just wanted to make one more cast. The best day I had fishing with my late brother Bob was making that last cast as we entered the marina. We caught so many big bass that the security gaurd threatened to lock the gate if we didn't stop fishing. Just 1 more cast can last for hours. Tom 4 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 29, 2020 Global Moderator Posted July 29, 2020 Usually another hour or two. 1 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted July 29, 2020 Super User Posted July 29, 2020 I'm not saying I never do the one last cast thing but it's rare for me. My girlfriend used to fish with me a lot and I would always do the one more cast thing with her so I could stay longer...but it wouldn't last more than ten minutes. She kinda fell out of fishing years ago and now more than ever because of covid im fishing alone. Because of this I fish til I'm done so I don't limit myself to one last cast..when I'm tired of it I leave be it an hour...6 hours..dark..you get the picture. Quote

One cast last is exactly that. However, allow me to shed some light ?. Messed up casts as you described don’t count so they could not possibly be your last cast. ? I have been known to “last cast” 15 minutes past the first last cast. Quote
Jonas Staggs Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 Man my last cast was usually 2 hours ago lol. Time goes so fast when your fishing, 45 minutes blows by like it was 10 minutes. Quote
schplurg Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 I'm not sure I've ever caught a fish with my last cast(s). I don't think I do more than 1-4 casts. And I think if I did catch one I'd keep fishing for a bit, so that would no longer be my last cast anyways. Or would it... I'm confused now. Quote
The Bassman Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 The cast that concerns me most is the first one. Getting bit right away usually means an unproductive session. Must be something in my head. Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted July 29, 2020 Super User Posted July 29, 2020 One last cast...probably the reason I prefer to start in the morning and get a full day...as go out and just have a couple hours till dark. Try to let nature tell me the hours ... not my watch. P.S. Doesn't always work!!! Quote
Super User Bankc Posted July 29, 2020 Super User Posted July 29, 2020 As many as the wife will allow. I wanna make sure I'm allowed to come back. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 29, 2020 Super User Posted July 29, 2020 If that last cast doesn’t catch a bass then I’ll be loading up the car for the drive home. If I catch one on the last cast then my wife will probably call wanting to know where I’m at and what happened to me. Quote
Herbert Lorenzo Posted July 30, 2020 Posted July 30, 2020 My last cast is when I realize there must have been a massive " unreported fish kill here last night " because I had this Bass Fishing thing all figured out this morning and I just got ....skunked. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 30, 2020 Super User Posted July 30, 2020 I'll put it this way, I'm not looking forward to my last cast. Roger 3 Quote
Super User geo g Posted July 31, 2020 Super User Posted July 31, 2020 If it's been a tough day, a hot day, I almost always say to myself "Just one more cast, and if I catch one I'll stay another hour." Over the years although it was slow, BINGO,I caught a fish and stayed just one more hour, it has happened several times. Yes, just one more cast, goes through mind all the time! Quote
Sphynx Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 I usually say it after I've already made it, when it's time to go, I go, it isn't as though the fishing hole is going to up and leave on me, gotta leave something left undone to make sure I return to finish it next time Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 31, 2020 Super User Posted July 31, 2020 Announce your last cast, wait a minute and throw another. The bass will think you're gone! 1 1 Quote
Miabucman Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Great question. For me, it all depends on how I have done throughout the trip. I will have to say that my last two weekday evening tournaments have produced fish on the last cast before heading in for weigh-in. On occasion, I have been known to get home late due to trying to achieve the "perfect" last cast. Quote
Bassun Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 I love to end on a fish, so my last cast may be that fish I land after it feels like it's time to go if I'm fishing solo. If the wife is with me, she determines when the last cast is, usually with a warning of ok -- we've got about 10 mins before I need to go. Generally, the next fish landed was my last cast in that scenario. If I'm with a buddy, and were on fish we may say last cast ... ok, this is really my last cast, oh you got a hit? Ok, last cast... on and on lol. As long as no one is expecting me at a certain time, last cast can be very fluid. One of the great things about cell phones is the wife no longer expects a specific time. I tell here where I'm going, and when I expect to head back - but things get updated over the phone all the time. I generally let her know we are at the lake, and when we load up to head back. A few updates go a long way with keeping a happy wife! Quote
Dens228 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Well............one last cast usually means 3-5 for me since I'm close to the launch. But.........if I catch a decent bass on my "last cast" it usually means about 50 more casts......lol Quote
