I never really believed Lews could compare but I’ve heard the term shimano fanboy used so much I wanted to hear some other opinions. Sounds like most agree with me that Shimano is better. I’ve had a couple Daiwas but I haven’t had any of the higher end ones. But I’m definitely not paying retail for a steez or some of their other ridiculous prices.

Order JDM on Ebay.  I picked up a new Steez for $365 last year and it has been fantastic.

This is my fear with any of the Lews, Abu, etc., reels. How do the internals differ between the $100 and the $300 models to warrant the price increase? A lot of the platforms are the same, or very similar, so I don't know if they're completely different reels or just use lighter components.

I would assume my Pro TI’s price increase is due to the carbon Fiber handle with Winn Grip Knobs, the Titanium coating and little things like the upgraded tension knob dial And speed keeper.

As a Shimano guy, if you want to branch out beyond Shimano, try Daiwa first.   Steez, Zillion, Tatula, Alpha > you can't really go wrong.  I have tried a few Lew's reels and they just didn't do it for me but they do have a loyal following for some.

And then I started to ask around at our last tournament.  "Who fishes Lew's reels?" Well...  Not many and no one I asked at the weigh-in fishes them exclusively.

One quote from a guy that use to fish them, "I got rid of them and kept the free T-shirt".

LOL, Kevin Van Dam, Jason Christie and Mark Rose must not fish any of those tournaments.

LOL,  if any of the guys we fish with could collect a sponsorship check like the ones you mentioned, we would be fishing them to.

We do have a variety of fishermen though, from guys with $100,000 boats to guys with jon boats.  We do have guys that are sponsored by Pure Fishing, Duckett, Aftco, and others but none of that stuff is in my future.   I'm in it for the fun and the bragging rights. ??

The weight and feel of the hypermag reminds me alot of the 2016 shimano metanium. It sits lower on the rod and has that light airy feeling while turning the handle.

The Pro TI has a slightly more robust feel in hand and feels slightly more solid. I cant place a shimano reel that feels like the Pro TI.

The Custom lite SLP palms kinda like the old shimano chronarch 50mg but retrieves like the aldebaran 50. Thats my best explanation for this model. Its light weight but not silky smooth like the other lews. Probably due to the vibrations coming through the carbon frame. I also believe all three of these reels have aluminum main gears.

Magnesium and carbon frames like the Lews you are speaking transmit more vibration.

You should try a tournament pro.you can get for 139 at sportsmans outfitters. List is 199. Mine outcasts all my friends reels. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I know alot of people on here aren't too fond of Lews, but I see a lot of there rods and reels on the decks of boats where i live. Their bright colors litter the deck of many older and younger anglers' boats here.

Lews must be doing something right to appeal to the masses.

My Lew's reels are made in Korea, if that matters.

Yes that matters, Korea is OK, China isn't.

Great review of the flagship Pro Ti made in Korea reel. It has lots of “bells and whistles” is 6.4oz and you don’t have to pay the $350 price tag. I got Dick’s to price match a $234 price I found online. Took me half and hour phone conversation but it was worth it.

Shimano makes great reels for sure. But, I have to stick up for Lews here. I've been using a Lews LFS casting reel since spring, and it's been perfect. These days, you don't have to spend a small fortune to get a good reel. The Lews LFS, at 100 bucks, is proof of that.

Great reel for the money.

I've been a lews fan for many years.  Recently have kinda decided they are nice reels but they aren't shimano for sure. I have a few curado k and none of the lews in that price range feel as solid or smooth.  Id give a tournament pro or something a try and see for yourself.  Id guess you will find what u think you'll find if comparing to anything above the curado. Nothing against lews I just feel like their newer offerings aren't as durable as they used to be

Its all relative. I really looked forward to my Lews LFS but i made the mistake of getting a Fuego CT first. When i got the LFS small things like rough edges in the casting stood out more and as a result, back it went. Im sure if i hadn't picked up the Fuego CT first I would have been perfectly happy with the LFS @ $100.

Big Lews fan here and have more then 10 of their rod and reels but after trying shimano and daiwa reels, I prefer daiwa over lews.  3 tatula sv tw reels and a shimano slx dc plus a curado k all with ceramic bearings etc  feel and cast better then any of my lews reels .  I feel with shimano or daiwa you get a better reel for the money.
