I have $120 to spend on fishing stuff in general and I don't have much terminal tackle, lures, or anything in general, so i want to leave a decent amount back for that. What are some good budget bait casting combos I can get, preferably in left handed retrieve?

Thanks!

I did my usual Google-foo and found....nothing.

Silver Max and Pro Max left-hand combos...no Black Max

Plenty of left-hand Black Max reels...no combos

Might have to put one together yourself.

Aird-X MH/F is a good rod...I've got one with a Pflueger Supreme on it.

Maybe someone who is familiar with store brand combos can help you.

Well - did a check of DSG

Garcia Ultra Max combo - left hand Ultra Max reel (unknown gear ratio) on a 6'9" MH/F Garcia Vengence rod - $79.99

Low and behold - a Black Max lefty (6.4:1) on a 7'0" M/F Berkley Cherrywood rod - $59.99

That’s an amazing value.  With that said, I generally do not advocate baitcasters that have a MRSP of $100.  They just do not last long enough because of either durability or user satisfaction.  Instead, get a M/F or MH/F spinning setup for less and have a good amount of your budget left over for all the other stuff.  Save up for a baitcasting setup and get it at a later date.

Meant to say “have a MSRP of LESS THAN $100”

I'd have to throw all five of my BCs away then - 2 Fuegos ($100 MSRP when purchased), 1 Supreme (same), 1 President-XT and 1 President.

So far, I've been very happy with all of them - and considering I get out a max of once a week for 4 hours, I'm not 'pounding' them like others.

Whoops.  I meant to say “less than $100 MSRP”.  I have 3 Fuegos in my arsenal, and I shop eBay hoping for the deals of yesteryears. I don’t know much about pflueger baitcasters beyond the one Supreme XT I bought on sale. It’s good but I won’t be getting another one when Fuegos are $50 cheaper.

Well, the only real difference between the Fuego and Supreme is the Magforce-Z brakes. The Supreme has standard mag brakes, but an aluminum frame like the Fuego...so a good reel on it's own. The Presidents are carbon-framed, but decently made. It's a budget thing for me...can't afford all high-end reels so get what I can. I'll still take the Presidents over other reels in the same price-range.

I still kick myself for not loading up on Fuegos when they were listed on EBay for $60, and I was finding 10% off coupons in my email.  They were not charging sales tax back then either.
