The way I heard it explained, you dunk the plastic spool the line is sold on, then you spool it up on the reel.

What i do is i spool the reel the exact same way the  guy in the video link i posted did then i take off the spool fill up a cup with hot water then put the spool in it

Also i have a question about a reel that i have confirmed to get if i got a REVLT2000-C would a spool from the Revlt3000 fit

Because i want the gear ratio of the one and the spool size of the other

I doubt it - that'd be like trying to fit a Pflueger 35 spool on a 30 body...I know my Trion-35 spool won't work on my Trion-30 reel...the size of the body-section under the spool is different.

Nice. The video I was referring to was from Richard Gene.

I think it's whatever and either is probably fine.

I have them and they are just about shot of course we might be talking about different ones as i am talking about the gx2 version

Also i cant decide between the several reel options right now so which one has a 5.2:1 ratio and holds about 75- 100yrds of 12lb test

Pflueger Trion or President 30 will hold about 80 yds of 12#

35 will hold about 115 yds.

Note - most people will say to go no higher than 10# on spinning reels.

^ 30 is a good size. If youre super concerned about line twist 35 might work for you. Although it is heavier and only gets worse sizes 40 and up.

Until you start paying for it. Supreme XT-40 weighs only 0.1oz more than the Trion-30 and 0.1oz less than the President-30. Of course, it's a $150 reel.

If you can wait a bit - keep checking FFO. I got my Trion-35 from there for $19. Currently they only have a T-20 and T-40...but their inventory updates a few times a week.

FFO is the factory outlet for Pure Fishing - who owns Abu, Pfleuger, Shakespeare, Berkley and others.

Or you could just go with a Mitchell Mag-Pro 3000 for $56 - normally $90

I have a 'new generation' Mitchell reel - Avocet RZ-2000 - and it's actually been a good reel.

Unless anyone knows another reel with the 5.2:1 gear ratio and spool that holds 100 yards of 12 lb test that has cheap spare spools

Get an old Mitchell 300.  They're bulky and feel like a coffee grinder, but they do last.  I've refurbed some recently, some more than 50 years old and didn't need anything replaced outside of a worn bail spring.  You can find them for $20 or less on eBay.  Keep in mind, it won't be nearly as smooth as even a modern budget spinning reel, but you can drag it through the mud and back and it'll still work.  A couple of them I serviced wouldn't even crank.  When I opened them up, I discovered the grease had turned to wax.  Cleaned them up, new grease and oil, and the owners are out there catching smallmouth with them as we speak.  It's the reel you want in your bug out bag.

I have one that’s about 50 years old. I cleaned and greased it in May and it works fine. Noisy (compared to modern spinning reels)? Yes. Smooth reeling? Not so much. Built like a tank and lasts pretty much forever? Yes. And it has an AR switch lol.

Just remember to crank slowly or you'll scare the fish away :D

If he was after a smaller reel - my Pflueger 640 that I bought in the 70s still works like a champ. After a clean and re-grease/re-oil - it's almost like new.

All of my reels cost less than $50 bucks and the newest one I own is 46 years old. Most are 50 to 65 years old and they'll still be around long after I'm gone. And there are still plenty of used ones around to be bought even though Mitchell has been out of business for 35 years.

Ummm - Mitchell is still around. They may be owned by Pure Fishing...but so is Abu, Shakespeare, Berkley, Stren, Pflueger and a number of other names. Mitchell's company headquarters is still based in France though...so that hasn't changed.

Not the original Mitchell in France. All that's around today is the name.

News to me...

"In 1990, Johnson Worldwide Associates (JWA) bought the Mitchell Company. The company moved its headquarters and R&D to Marignier, France, where it is still located today."

"In 2000, Mitchell was purchased by Pure Fishing as part of the JWA fishing products acquisition. Mitchell continues to sell the Mitchell 300 reel, as well as adding new, innovative products to its successful fishing lineup."
