Getting Back To Normal

I'm hoping that BR members who were affected during the lockdown are getting back on track again.                                     My job slowed way down in March, and I took a significant loss of income. I ended up taking a part time job, for slightly less pay, and so far it's working out well. It's turned into more than 24hrs a week, and become all most full time. That, and working one or two days in my daughter's family business, has kept us afloat. I feel lucky. I know many folks were hit hard, and are still recovering. I always think back to what my dad used to say years ago. " When times get tough, keep your chin up, hang in there, and do the best you can". Things will improve over time". " never be a quitter".  I hope all BR members are back to work, and keeping busy. Hang in there, things will improve over time.

Just minor changes here. Wife's and my SS checks keep getting deposited into the account, so no monetary issues out of the norm. Just harder to get a respite worker in to take care of the wife so I can go fishing as they're all 'afraid'. So this year has been REALLY slow on the fishing front.

I signed up to be a delivery driver in case my work shut down. Turns out delivery driving is pretty good (probably the highest paying job I’ve ever had haha). My regular job never shut down completely, so now I have a nice side gig in the evenings and weekends to have extra cash for bills 

 

Several of my buddies are in the music industry and they have found work landscaping and remodeling

I do feel for everyone that’s had to pinch the pennies more due to this stuff. Personally, I’m pretty darn lucky in that my business is busier than ever. Being self employed as a stonemason in one of the richest cottage areas of North America, there is absolutely no shortage of extremely wealthy people here in the summer, and a lot of them came to their cottages earlier this year, and they’re sitting around looking at their place thinking “ maybe we should finally add that extra fireplace or put some more stone facing on that wall over there”, etc. Some days it feels like I should toss my phone in the lake so I can actually get some work done, but I’m not gonna get to upset about having “too much work”, especially nowadays.

We own a dental office and were forced to shutdown for 12 weeks.  The first 2 or 3 weeks was like being on vacation, but soon after that it became a pretty stressful situation.  The not knowing if or when we would reopen began to take a toll on me.  Spending all that time in school to finally have a career and then to have it taken away was quite an eye opener.  We had just purchased our office before the 2008 market crash and our area took 5+ years to begin to recover.  Luckily we made it a point to start paying off debt and have stuck to that plan.  That helped us this time as we had fewer bills and could live on a much smaller income.  I was able to get a ton of honey-do projects done and I am sure if push come to shove I could find employment if needed.  We reopened June 1 and it has been crazy busy!   People coming out of the woodwork for treatment.  We realistically could make 12 weeks up in income by the end of the year.  Crazy how people have responded.

Actually looked at this for quite some time...Normal...myself and many others will never see this again...but I do hope and pray for better and stronger times for you all....we are in quite an adventure where positive needs to prevail....

I did a post”No work” In April I think.Our 2 biggest months are traditionally March and April. This year way below average. But it was a blessing for me it came in those months, because at least there was some work, although less than normal. Not “ no work “ .  If it had started in January or February, it would have been much worse for me.

I had a record month in June, and another in July. People are spending money like never before on home related stuff.

Same for pest control. Prices are high and going higher , because of the cost of pesticides going higher, primarily. But people are signing up to have us treat like crazy.

Catt, I guess I should have worded this thread, I hope everyone is doing ok. I agree, nothing seems "normal" these days.
