They dull pretty quickly. They used to be my go to, but now I use the Cuda 5" shear. Much longer lasting. 1 Quote
FrankN209 Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I ended up buying a pair of fiskars children scissors, they work great. 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 23, 2020 Super User Posted July 23, 2020 There are several tools that will do a good job cutting braid. Toenail clippers aren’t one of them. I prefer the Boomerang tool because I can clip it to my shirt. It is always where I need it, I never have to look for it, it won’t poke me, and is very fast. For me, it is the most convenient cutting tool that does a good job on braid that I have found. 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted July 23, 2020 Super User Posted July 23, 2020 Boomerang is good until you start cutting 8-15lb mono/FC in the mixed, especially the knot part. It still cut but not clean cut anymore. I always try to remember to cut mono on bottom part and leave top part only for braid but always mess up. My next boomerang will be only for braid. 2 Quote

It's very frustrating when you work your rear end off in 100 degree weather to make a perfect knot, and a dull cutter ruins it at the end. I need something sharper like what a rabbi might use to do his job What do you guys use, and recommend? do yourself a favor and get one Gerber , I have gone so far and it is the answer: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gerber_Fishing_Neat_Freak_Braided_Line_Cutters/descpage-GE.html Quote
onenutinthewater Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Boomerang= for $12 you can get a few seasons out of them. I also have the gerber neat freak which cuts very nicely but the tips are huge. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted July 24, 2020 Super User Posted July 24, 2020 Line to hook/lure I use my CRKT knife and for leader knots I use cheap dollar store stainless steel scissors. I've got those little cheap scissors in every bag. Quote
TBAG Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Boomerang stays clipped to my NRS vest when on the yak. I also always have a variation of a Sypderco Salt knife clipped to my right pocket. Quote

Shimano_1 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I've tried a lot of different ones over the years and the boomerang is where its at in my opinion. I'm on my 2nd season and it has worked wonderfully for all line types Quote
mcipinkie Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Fiskars for Kids. Watch the sale bins at the grocery store. I've bought lots of them for $0.59. Great for braid, but once you cut mono or flouro, they won't cut braid anymore. 2 Quote

txchaser Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Boomerang. Especially because they are impossible to put in the wrong place... I just let them go and they go back where they should be. After about 18 months the braid-cutting abilities are starting to wane. I like the idea above on cutting braid and mono/flouro on different parts of the blade. I got the long blade so plenty of space. Quote
Eddie101 Posted July 26, 2020 Author Posted July 26, 2020 Just bought a Boomerang based on your suggestions. Thank you all for your input! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 27, 2020 Global Moderator Posted July 27, 2020 Cheap kids safety scissors or the $.89 kitchen essential kitchen shears from WalMart. I know me, I'm going to drop stuff in the lake. Hurts a lot less when it's a $1 pair of safety scissors versus an expensive tool I bought just to cut line. 1 Quote

It's what I moved to a couple of years ago and I haven't looked back - works great on a variety of braid , FC and mono line sizes . Quote

I was gonna buy something like this but afraid it wouldn’t last long just like most of the pliers without braid cutter. I always carry Boomerang Forceps type with snip tool but lost it now and then, this is my second or third set and it I loose it again I’m gonna buy something else. I have aluminum fishing pliers but that is too big when I fish for panfish. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted July 27, 2020 Super User Posted July 27, 2020 Dr Slick scissor clamps cut braid very well at first. I clamp them to my shirt where they are very handy and are multi-purpose for getting (smaller) hooks out and cutting line. I still use them for hook removal but using them in that way over time causes the scissors to separate just enough to keep them from cutting braid as easily as when they were new. I use both the Boomerang tool and the clamps now. 1 Quote
