Eddie101 Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I have a BassPro scissors which worked great, but I think it's time to get another as the blades are getting dull. It's very frustrating when you work your rear end off in 100 degree weather to make a perfect knot, and a dull cutter ruins it at the end. I need something sharper like what a rabbi might use to do his job What do you guys use, and recommend? Quote
Happybeerbuzz Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I do not know if they are the best, but I use a Boomerang Tool. It has lasted at least 2 years and is still going strong. 7 Quote

Mat_ski Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Boomerang for me as well. Well worth its price. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I just use children's serrated edge school scissors. Works great for braid. 2 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted July 22, 2020 Super User Posted July 22, 2020 Been using these for 2 years before they started being carried by fishing retailers. Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted July 22, 2020 Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2020 Cheap pocket knife. If I’m wearing clothes, there’s a knife in my pocket. I leave it in my pocket even when swimming 1 Quote

They work great on all line types. I am on my 2nd set, but only because my son dropped my 1st set into the lake a couple of years ago. 2 Quote

Good price, good product. But I’m not using them in saltwater. Brackish and freshwater. 1 Quote
thunderblack Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 boomerang, nail clipper, nippers from several brands, scissor, cutter on Kast King pliers all work great for me. Oh....and teeth 1 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted July 22, 2020 Super User Posted July 22, 2020 I use the tiny swiss army knife on my keychain. I really like the tiny spring loaded scissors because they're easy to grab and use with one hand. It also has a knife blade, file, screwdriver, tweezers, and a toothpick, which is the only thing I never use. It's not just good for fishing, it's good to have on you anytime! Plus, it's about the size of a key, so it doesn't take up much space. The only downside is you have to remember to remove it before you pass through a security check point, like at the airport or for a concert/sporting event. Quote

Yeah I carry around a Leatherman Squirt (pliers version) on my keychain and it really comes in handy when i forget my lure tuner or boomerang tool. Quote
waymont Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I have a bunch of Boomerang cutters. They are good when new, but after a year of cutting 30lb braid and 15 and 20lb flouro, they wont cut braid cleanly. When I need to cut braid cleanly, I will now only use one tool, the Cuda 5" Shear. It's cheaper than the Boomerang, and lasts way longer. Also, it's great for trimming plastic baits. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Cuda_5_Braid_Shear/descpage-CBSC.html These shears cut CLEAN! 1 Quote

Which one do you use? The smaller one or larger? I have the smaller one, it seems to be dulling already, after a year. Quote
CountryboyinDC Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 I haven't tried Boomerang cutters, but I don't know how they could be better than Pitbull cutters. Braid is the line that gives you the most trouble, and with Pitbulls, you don't have to even hold the line under tension. In the kayak, I have Line Cutterz attached. You have to hold tension for these to cut braid, but I don't find the need to cut braid that much on the water. I also carry a knife (sometimes it's actually sharp). For any of these, I wouldn't recommend them to a mohel. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted July 22, 2020 Super User Posted July 22, 2020 I usually use my knife or the blade thing on my aluminum pliers, but I ordered one of the Line Cutterz things to try. They look the part. Quote

One thing I did do - the auto-retract on it failed, so I modded it to use a heavy-duty 'badge holder' in it's place. Little work to get it to attach, but nothing horrible. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 22, 2020 Super User Posted July 22, 2020 Zebra mussels are the best. They’re free if you have them in your lakes. 6 1 Quote
Bass Rutten Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 Got one these little guys, cuts braid clean, very small and light, stays on a strap around my neck, very handy. Quote

I remember when I moved to Arkansas, I was fishing the Arkansas river. My line kept getting cut and the guy i was fishing with said, it's probably zebra mussels. I didn't believe him until I pulled about 3 of them up on my line. Quote

They're handy - in a kayak the most popular place to install them is around the seat frame because it's round. Of course it doesn't work so well when you actually go to cut the line because it's out of your sight. I get the adhesive type and put them in a spot I can get to. If you get the 'ring' sort, using it as a ring may be the best way. Quote
