Miken216 Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I’m just curious what power and action and size your rods are Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 20, 2020 Super User Posted July 20, 2020 Medium-Heavy power | Fast action | 6'6" to 7'0" Roger Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted July 20, 2020 Super User Posted July 20, 2020 I'm fishing from a canoe - so take this into account Both rods I use for jerkbaits are 6'6" Medium/Fast - one spinning, one casting. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 20, 2020 Super User Posted July 20, 2020 I use a 20 year old pre IPC SC Avid AC62MXF. You can get a very similar AVC62MXF that will have a similar action, but better guides new. This is the same rod I use for walk the dog, poppers, prop TW, and light, short target spinnerbaits. I've even used it for squarebills in a pinch. 1 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted July 20, 2020 Super User Posted July 20, 2020 Dobyns Champ 683c and Tatula Elite 8.1:1. That Elite can throw even a light jerk bait a mile... 2 Quote
Born 2 fish Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I use a 7’ medium moderate but it has a snappy tip. It works great for me. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted July 20, 2020 Super User Posted July 20, 2020 610MLF Omen casting rod Quote
Riverside.bassin Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 6’8” St Croix Mojo Bass M/XF with a Curado 70k Quote
Super User Teal Posted July 20, 2020 Super User Posted July 20, 2020 Endurance 683 6'8 MH. I use it for topwaters, jerks, and as a skipping rod. I really wish I had 2 or 3 of them Quote
Shimano_1 Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 6'9 med fast rod with a high speed shimano slx reel Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted July 20, 2020 Super User Posted July 20, 2020 6'6" and 7'0" mh/f. Both are more like a m/f than mh/f. Quote
EWREX Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 7’ ML daiwa tatula elite - randy howell jerkbait/shallow crank casting rod Quote
Super User PhishLI Posted July 21, 2020 Super User Posted July 21, 2020 6'7" or 7"1" MF Omen Black II. Quote
walleyecrazy Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 7' Medium power, Regular action which really amounts to a mod fast. Quote

It's only a little more than an inch difference in length from the tip to the reel seat. It's like it was designed for tip down presentations, similar to a pistol grip, but not a pistol grip. I've had Saint Croix rebuild the rear cork twice, because I use it so much I wore it out. Quote

See I also just purchased the avid x 6’8 mxf I was going to use the for my top water because my avid 6’6 mf is my top water but I have the casting and spinning version of the avid and when I was using the spinning version it seemed to work well but I use that rod for finesse fishing the spinning combo so I was thinking would that avid x 6’8 mxf be a better option for jerk bait or better for my top water I just want to be able to have a top water setup and jerkbait setup Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 23, 2020 Super User Posted July 23, 2020 G. Loomis 783 GLX MH Fast 6'6''. It has worked great for about 15+ years. Simply love this rod. Quote

A couple of them actually, and spinning lol. I sub is for when I want to throw jerkbaits, TW, light plastics, really anything under 1/2 oz, for when I'm in my kayak and apace is tight. Quote
ajschn06 Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Haven't thrown jerkbaits much over the years but used to have a lot of success with them was younger and wanted to get back into it... I went with a Aird-X 6'6" medium fast rod and a Daiwa CR80 7.5:1 reel. Brand new off ebay the combo was $100, pleasantly impressed with the reel.... Quote

Yeah I’m throwing them with a 6.3:1 Tatula sv tws I was debating on putting my steez sv tw 7.1:1 but I have that on my top water and I don’t have any higher gear ratio reels sitting around I can really sacrifice from my other combos Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 23, 2020 Super User Posted July 23, 2020 I’ve used anything from slow to high speed reels for twitch baits, and I never found it made much difference. I was always able to adjust to whatever was on the rod. Quote
