Hello,

Looking for experienced owners of the 2020 Frontier 12. Weighting some cons and pros but it looks like my new boat soon.

Concerned about reported issues with the earlier boats and would like to know if anyone experienced these with 2020 model.

1. Some owners reported after a few seasons that the metal hardware was not lasting in brackish/salty water. Does the 2020 model maintained the same hardware from previous models? Anyone having issues with rusting rivets or mounting bolts of the rails or handles already. As i understand these are not stainless steel so should not expect great performance but still anything that presents inferior quality would be big con.

2. Some reports of sagging or not so sturdy deck area after seasons in the sun and heat. The Nucanoe website still offers a free foamy insert as a remedy. Apparently this fix impedes scupper holes functionality.

3. Some extreme reviews of earlier units imply that the used polyethylene did not last well in salty water reporting hairline cracking and deformation only after one season.

Any other insights into 2020 differences or improvements to the previous year units would be helpful.

Thank you.

I have a 2015, previously had two. I have had them in fresh and brackish waters. Of the problems listed, the only one I had was the deck, and then only when solo on a hot sunny day. It did not affect fishability at all, and when I run tandem its not an issue. The problem is the size of the span of the deck - that much plastic and the air underneath it expand when heated, and you see some waviness. Never had a problem with the scuppers. All of the cracks I've seen on Nucanoes were operator error/ignorance/abuse. Do not use scupper carts on any kayak, ever. Its just not worth it.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Did you get the foam insert or see a valid point in firming up the deck any other way?

Mainly considering it for a lot of stand up sight fishing/bowing and paddling so would hate to have a soft platform on a hot sunny day.

If you are going solo and are going to stand mid deck for long periods - get the insert, especially if you're 200+. It doesnt hurt to get it other than maybe a little more water not draining.

get the insert,

Hello

Is that insert different than the grippy foam that comes on the newer NuCanoe frontiers?

Posted

The insert goes inside the hull and supports the deck. Mine is a 2015 and doesnt have the Seadeck applied that some of the newer models do.

The 2021 F12 boats have added support to prevent any hull flex. The F10 hasn't changed in the 2021 model
