...mainly because it seems to happen so rarely ?. Late yesterday afternoon we had a gully washer, a typical summer late afternoon storm. "The book" says that the fish in my subdivision pond should be in the storm sewer inflow, with all that oxygenated food-laden water pouring in, and by golly they were. They were stacked like firewood in the drain where the storm sewer comes in.

Couple of weeks ago, I had one blow up on a Whopper Plopper and miss. "The book" says to immediately throw a worm or some similar bait where it happened. I tossed in a shaky head and by golly, that fish nailed it and was the biggest of the morning.

Only problem is these two examples aren't remotely representative of my usual experience. Usually "the book" ends up being thrown out of the boat or into the pond by the end of the day.

if the book isn't right you are probably in the wrong chapter :)

I do love when it all comes tougher like that
though.  I had a trip where the lake was up probably 6' and all the fish were up tight to shore in the newly flooded areas.  I had a great numbers and size day.

Caught my biggest fish of the day last week at 12:40PM on a sunny, hot day on a walking topwater bait.

Thursday, it was overcast and cooler, I couldn't get them to touch a topwater.

Turns out fish can't read.

The book never works for me, I guess nothing ever goes to plan in bass fishing though, even if they do go to plan I tell myself it's an anomaly and can end anytime. That's probably why senkos exist lol

Last summer me and a buddy were fishing a local spot in our kayaks under absolutely perfect conditions.  And boy did we struggle.  He looked over at me and wondered out loud why we weren't catching any bass.........I told him it was obvious the bass were reading different articles and forums than we were.

Threw a senko all morning and only 1 nibble and that was a pan fish.  The bass didn't know they were supposed to bite it . Lol . What a difference 5 days make , they were fighting over it then. Had the Ned tied on but it was time to go.

I have a hunch the above script was written by the bass.

Perhaps it's we fishermen who can't read bass script   :smile1:

Kidding aside, it turns out that some of my best fish

were taken in midsummer, around midday on a Johnson spoon skating on top.

I’ve been conducting my first few Johnson spoon experiments recently. Those things have a wild action! Academy sports brand (h20 express) has a similar spoon with a sharper  hook, although I haven’t thrown it yet
