Hey everyone. Just ordered a Shimano Vanford VF2000HG to pair with my new 6'10 ML Expride.

Anyone else preorder? Anyone think it's overhyped? Will it outclass the Daiwa Ballistic?

Let's hear your thoughts!

i think both it and the stradic Ci4+ that came before both outclass the ballistic because the ballistic does not have a ball bearing in the line roller.

Daiwa used to lead the pack when it came to line twist mitigation but i dont think thats true anymore because a lot of their reels don't have bearings in the line rollers anymore.

I can’t really comment on the cast abilities between the reels but Daiwa sure does make a smooth reel

even the low end LT reels feel crazy smooth for the price. I’m sure they didn’t hold anything back with the new vanford, seemed like daiwa was leading the pack for fresh water spinning reels.

Did you do a search ?

I didn't care for the Ballistic (not a knock on Daiwa because I own and like the less expensive Fuego and Revros).  I have 6 Stradic's (4 Ci4+ and a FJ and FK) and have nothing but praise for them!

I have two Stradic FL, two Stradic ci4+, two Stella FJ.

I will probably add two Vanfords to the mix.

I did. 90% of the discussion is over the name or arguing. 100% of that when I posted. Looking for productive content.

Preordered the 2500, way more drag than the 2000. Can’t wait to pair it with the Expride.

How much drag do you honestly need? lol I never understood why so many people buy a reel meant for 6-8lb line and think they need 20lbs of drag. Marketing I guess

I think you’re not understanding that people buy reels for different applications. Maybe marketing for you, but it comes down to value for me and the actual specs of the two reels which is more than just drag. I take it you haven’t read the specs maybe until... well now.  If I’m on the water fishing stripers, LM, SM, CP etc... on a boat, on the shore, from a dock or from a tree. I’ll take the extra drag buddy. If you think people use 6-8 line on these reels on the east coast, I would say it’s pretty subjective.

Right on. I chose the 2000 for the weight. Spooling it with 10# braid 6# leader or straight 6# fluorocarbon. Fishing in open water. If it can handle 6lb smallies I'm good to go.

I've caught plenty of schoolie stripers on my regular old Steez and TD-z that have 9lbs of drag using  #8 and #10. It takes a while sometimes but why hurry through the whole point of going fishing to begin with.

See, that is something I never understood. Guys will spend $80,000 on a boat, $50,000 on a truck to haul it.A couple of grand on gear, $150 fill up on the boat another $50  in the truck. Then they drive 2 hours to the lake, maybe pay a launch fee then fight the Googans for an hour to get into the water.....and after all that? The big concern is to hurry up and get that fish into the boat as soon as you can so that the fish that you will probably release anyway will not get off.

Not me. Give me a good 1/2 hr. fight with a fish for my money. I don't fish for a living, I fish for fun, and the fun is the fighting the fish part.

I usually just take my personal helicopter to my yacht. I use my fish finder to find all the fish and watch my team of Swedish models fish completely nude from the deck. Now that’s some fun fish fighting.

That’s how I got my last set up. Awesome deal.

Hmmm...I think I like your way better...
