Brew City Bass Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Well this is basically mid-summer in Wisconsin now. I've been working way more than I'd like and fish less than I need to. I've been able to consistently get out on the weekends. I try to get out friday and saturday nights. Relief from the heat and the big girls come out to play. Fishing has been decent. Good numbers, averaging 15 a night (10pm-1am) and I've had a night where I caught 30. Biggest this year was a 4.5lb and a bunch just under 4lbs. No luck with 7+ lbers like two years ago, but it still might be a little early for them to go shallow like I want. I always use a black or black variation colorado spinner bait. I cast as close to shore as possible and roll it as slow as it will go. Bass up here move stupid shallow at night and are AGGRESSIVE towards loud baits. 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 15, 2020 Super User Posted July 15, 2020 Ive been twice at night . Had one good night and one lousy . No doubt about it . Night fishing here is best the first couple days before a full moon because the moon is high and bright when the sun goes down . It will be early August next time its in that phase . Dark nights are much tougher . 1 Quote

Still caught 22 bass and my partner got 12. It seems like as soon as the water hits 75-80 degrees they just hunker down in the day and don't feed, then about 10pm they start hammering everything til 1am. 1 Quote

Only thing that's good about the bright moon is the bites I get seem to be good fish. 2 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted July 15, 2020 Super User Posted July 15, 2020 Been blessed to get out at least twice a week for small tourneys from five to nine. We fish a smaller lake with tons of other boaters so it's tough but it takes around ten pounds with five fish to win usually. Glad to not fish the darkness....don't trust eye's now. Fish are not huge but it's a tug. 1 Quote
Fishin Dad Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Night fishing for bass is something I have never done. I may have to head out and give this a try. That is if the bugs don’t carry me away! Quote
Ogandrews Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 I’m in Minnesota and the heat is changing my waters for sure but not in a bad way. I’m not sure why but I am getting way less bites but only good ones. My last two trips out to local waters I have only gotten 2-8 fish each time but haven’t caught one smaller than 4lbs either trip with the biggest being a 7.2. Everything has been either on a teckel sprinker or a 1/2 oz dirty jigs no jack swim jig. This water is normally a low density big fish fishery but this is out of the norm even for here to not get anything smaller than 4. Everything has been on outside weed edges in 6-8 fow. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted July 17, 2020 Super User Posted July 17, 2020 I went again last night and only caught two fish after dark , no moon . Did get to see the comet . I caught 8 before dark and earlier caught 12 at a culvert in an irrigation ditch . Quote

Guitarfish Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 When I was young and had energy, I would send my work crews out, then hook up my boat and go fishing. Made all my calls from the boat and set up all the work orders for the next day or two. Never told the crews or they would have mutinied. Then Friday I'd switch to the 10' BassHunter for night fishing. Wife never complained either. How lucky was I? 2 Quote
