Coonedawg Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Perhaps use a trailer hook on your frogs. Lake Fork Tackle makes one for frog fishing and they work out well for an older gentleman that I fish with that can't generate a hard hookset anymore due to some health issues. Most of the time, the fish hook themselves. Quote

OnthePotomac Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Put one of these on your frog....problem solved. They will hook themselves. https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/lake-fork-trophy-lures-frog-tail-hook Quote

I've had times it was more effective than a spook. Quote
Rpratt Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I was having the same issues earlier this year. Was using a 7-2 M/H rod, and just seemed to miss alot of fish. I bought a Dobyns Fury 735C, 7-3 Heavy with a fast tip, and my hookup ratios have soared. On open water I probably hook at least 90% of the fish, and on mats it's around the 70% range. But I am guessing alot of that is just the fish missing the frog. It sounds like you are doing the same tactics alot of us use. Let the fish have it and then cross those eyes. So it's just a matter of time before you have much more success ? Quote

Hate the traditional hollow body frogs..... can't get them to walk right, always squeezing water out of them...blah... Love the soft body frogs with legs that create disturbance and I can just reel (Noisy flapper, horny toad, etc)…. much easier for me... Quote
