Is Daiwa Turning Into Tatula?

With the new 300 size Tatula that is coming out, I am starting to loose track of what Daiwa makes besides Tatulas.  It seems like they have a successful platform and are taking it a bit too far.  I am not for sure but I think there are eight current versions for Tatula baitcasters not including the limited designs and JDM versions.   I hope they start to change things up in the future.  

 

Maybe bring the Alpha and Morethan to the US market?

Look at Honda with the civic. I think that it's kind of smart on daiwas end, people want the tatula so they gave them more tatulas. Ya they are ranging from 100-300 bucks, but they can cover a whole lot of ground that way. 

People will always buy what they know, until it blows up in their face.

They could do like others and give every variant of a model a new name. End of the day who cares what they call each reel as long as there’s one to fit the need?

The difference between Daiwa and Shimano is, Daiwa utilizes the same frame, only change spool and slab a new name. I believe now these new Tatulas use two different  frames, old Tatula CT frame a little bigger with no zero adjustment and old Steez frame a little smaller. 
The 150 and above plus Tatula SV use CT frame. The 100 and below plus Tatula SV 103 use old Steez frame.

Confusing? Yes but good thing is most of the spool would fit into other reel in same type frame, unless Daiwa change spool dimension. 
We had gone to this once and now Daiwa did it again, remember the old day with SV 103 (zillion frame), SS SV 103 and 105(Steez frame) , then SV 105(Alphas frame)

You want more models? Just go over to Lews they have so many different models you’ll be confused for a week. But I love my Lews reels.

I like Shimano spinning reels and Daiwa casting reels.

I have owned both at one point or another.  

 

I just feel Daiwa has more to offer and sometimes the US market gets short changed.

I was thinking the same thing about the SLX's when I created this topic.  They too have done well with these and we will probably see more in the future.

Yeah but the tats are more in the budget friendly range and do the job well.

Most of my Daiwa reels are pre-T-wing, but I do have a Tat sv Tw and a Tat ct-R that have it. I don't see much advantage to it, but I was kind of surprised that I didn't really notice any downside either.

 

The one and only issue I've ever had was once when I was trolling an 8' Crank bait and had tied a 1/4 oz lead head jig and curly tail about 3' up the line from it. (fishing white bass). I ended up with a whole lot of line twist and it seems that the T-wing was much easier for the line to loop around. But that mess was so bad that it was tangling on everything, the rod, the tip-top, every guide and the T-wing, so I'm not sure that was really much to do with the T-wing.

 

I've heard a few people say that the T-wing can be a problem with leader knots, but then I've heard about as many say it isn't. I don't usually use leader so I can't really say.

I don't have any qualms about it from a performance standpoint, but come maintenance time it can be a little fiddly.

yeah, there is that I guess. But if it requires that much maintenance I'd just send them off. I've never had a problem with the fiddly parts that raise the little hood, Everything else is OK. I've done stuff like adding level wind bearings and replacing the level-wind screw and noticed no difference at all. For what it's worth, I've never even heard of anyone having trouble with the moving hood part. But I'm sure it happens from time to time.

I'm not sure what you mean here. I see no one stressing. Judging from where you chose to place this reply, I am wondering if you are talking about me. If so, I assure you that I am not meaning to be irate, aggressive or any other emotionally negative adjective. I am simply discussing the gear with other folks who are discussing the gear.

 

I am an engineer and am used to writing things that are direct, to the point and without qualification. Sometimes maybe that comes off as something else because I don't apologize for disagreeing with someone.

 

On the other hand it is about the facts and not the persons, so it is never personal from my end. If someone disagrees with me I fully expect them to return the favor and we can discuss the issue and not each other...
