Brad Jennings Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 Hey Experts...just fished with my brother's older Calcutta Conquest DC100 reel and decided that I must have one too. I am thinking about the new 2020 model but am not sure whether to get the standard version (5.6:1 gear ratio) or the HG version (6.8:1 gear ratio). Can't afford both, so was wondering what you would recommend to serve as an "all purpose" model? Thanks or your thoughts and recommendations. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 I looked at getting the 200 size last year and decided to get the Antares 70 instead. But if the 100 size had been out then, I might have jumped on it. In your case though, I would go with the HG. I think the regular version would be ideal for crankbaits but the HG would do well for just about anything. Welcome to the forum by the way. Quote
mrpao Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 The question is what will you be using it for? I don't have any of the Conquest DC but I do have some of the regular Conquest 100. I like the lower gear ratios for crankbaits, spinnerbait and chatterbaits. If I had the HG model it would probably be used for some sort of bottom contact or weightless worm application. But I prefer a low profile reel for those techniques. Quote
Brad Jennings Posted July 12, 2020 Author Posted July 12, 2020 Thanks fellows. I would basically use it for anything in my tackle box. I am mostly using worms rigs now, but also crankbaits and spinnerbaits as well. I am not a professional...so don't need a. multitude of reels. But I would like a really nice reel that can basically be used as my go-to, all purpose baby. Quote
mrpao Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 Too each their own but I would prefer to have multiple nice combos to do different applications as opposed to just one or two really nice ones for everything. There's lots of nice reels out there for way less money. Quote
