Super User ATA Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 Recently I add two new combos to my fishing gear, one conquest804c with Anteras DC, The second one Shimano Curado XXHeavy Rod and Tranx 300(for very large swim Baits and glides(3 to 6 Oz). Now I have total of 8 Combos, 3 spinning and 5 Casting. For me my go to is conquest/anteras which I use for Jigs and worms. I wonder how many you have and what is your go to set up? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 I’m not sure how many total setups I have. Right now I am carrying 20 in the boat, 10 bait casters and 10 spinning though I can’t use the spinning because I can’t grip the rods with my right hand. I am awaiting surgery in 3 weeks to correct the situation. I don’t have a go to as that depends what I plan to do. Lately that has been shaky. My favorite shaky is a Curado 70 on a 7.5’ All Pro Atlantis rod with 12# fc. 3 Quote

I have roughly 30 total rods & reels of various brands. I mix and match my combos based on the water I’m fishing. My ‘go to’ baitcast setup is a 7’ MH/F Kistler KLX with a 7.3:1 Concept C and for spinning, a 6’9” Abu Garcia Veracity ML/F with a Pflueger Supreme XT. 1 Quote
BoatSquirrel Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 The way to maximize this number is to make the mistake I did which is the dedicated set-up. Ned rig setup, dropshot setup, jerkbait setup, flippin setup, crankbait setup.... well then I need a second crankbait setup, and pretty soon you end up with a dogpile of endless combos. Then get into swimbaits! Oh boy... 3 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 I took 7 yesterday because I have a kayak and crate rigged for 8. I went a while back with my cousin and uncle to walk a pond and took 11. My main combos for bass are 6 BC and 2 spinning. I also have a couple combos that I pieced together with my dad's stuff after he died. They're old but serviceable. A couple of my combos I carry just because I want to try 3 topwaters and don't want to be retying all day. I only have three combos with really nice rods. The rest are cheaper rods ($30-40) that can do the job when sensitivity is not terribly important. But I'm gradually replacing the cheaper rods with better quality as they wear out. I have three Lew's Tourney MB reels and an Academy TAC-4 reel. The rest are older ones I had for 10 years or so. 1 Quote
galyonj Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 I have to carry everything with me when I go, so I try to minimize the amount of junk I have to haul around while at the same time giving myself some presentation-appropriate options. So I take 3 setups with me: 6'9" ML/F Lew's TP-1 Black spinning rod with a 2000-size Lew's Mach 2 reel for finesse-type stuff 7' M/M Falcon Bucoo with a 6.8:1 Speed Spool LFS for plugs and unweighted texas rigged stuff 7' MH Lew's TP-1 Black with a 7.5:1 Tournament MB for weighted plastics, jigs, stuff like that. The TP-1 casting rod broke at the tip a couple weeks ago and I still haven't heard back from Lew's, so I've replaced that rod with an American Hero rod with the same specs for now. 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 I bank fish so it's impractical to have a ton of setups. - 5.5 ft light spinning - 6.5 ft MH spinning - 6.5 ft M spinning - 7 ft MH baitcaster - 7.5 ft H baitcaster And you know what? 99% of my fishing is done on my 7 ft Lew's Mach 2 SLP MH setup. I can throw most any bait on it and I catch a ton of bass. Occasionally I throw the heavy setup if I'm fishing lily pads or want to throw a decent sized swimbait. Some days I think I might want to get a Tatula or Shimano but then I think, "Do I REALLY need that?" To each his own, but I'm just fine basically sticking to one setup. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 Last count was 16 bass set ups and 30+ collectively.. I've sold a few and had several stolen by someone who wanted them more than me I guess. I carry about 8 or 9 plus one of my striper rods (ducket inshore rods) that I throw swimbaits on. So let's just say 10. Bank fishing I'll carry 2 for me and 2 for each kid going. They carry their own gear. Getting closer to pulling trigger in a kayak.. gonna try 4 rods to start and see how comfortable it is. When I had a pond boat I carried 4 rods. Catfish and striper fishing I'll carry 6. Plus a couple ultra lights and a couple bass rods just un case. (Most of the time they stay in the rod locker. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 10 setups - 5 spinning, 5 baitcasting. Go-to rig? Depends on where/how I'm fishing. Could be the Supreme/MH Aird-X if I'm tossing jigs...bladed or otherwise, or it could be the President-25/ML Fury if I'm doing finesse. 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 I dont know how many rods and reels I have I carry between 5 and 7 when in a boat . 1 Quote
813basstard Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 Five. 2 braid setups 3 mono setups If I can’t catch them on those, I can assure I can’t catch them on 25 setups. 2 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 For bass? If my old lady asks maybe 10. If your asking and I'm being honest upwards of 25! Probably 6 or 8 spinning and 15+ baitcasting. 2 hours ago, Koz said: I bank fish so it's impractical to have a ton of setups. - 5.5 ft light spinning - 6.5 ft MH spinning - 6.5 ft M spinning - 7 ft MH baitcaster - 7.5 ft H baitcaster And you know what? 99% of my fishing is done on my 7 ft Lew's Mach 2 SLP MH setup. Super User RoLo Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 I've never counted all the freshwater & saltwater outfits we have, which are found in my den, in the garage and both bedrooms I really don't have any Go-to outfit, which changes with the seasons. Roger 2 Quote
LCG Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 I keep it simple. Two set ups. 6'8" M-Xf spinning rod paired with a Stradic FL 6'9" MH-XF casting rod paired with a Curado k Bank and kayak mostly. Mainly soft plastics and spinnerbaits. Texas rigs, Ned rigs, and weightless senkos are my go to techniques. 2 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 I carry 3 1/2 in the boat and collectively I'm at 4 1/2 or 5 I guess. But I do chose to count them like dog years so .. . . . . . A-Jay 1 1 Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 12, 2020 Super User Posted July 12, 2020 To echo a previous post, the best way to acquire the most rigs and deplete your wallet the quickest is to go the "dedicated rig" route. The premise behind this is that for any bait, or bait presentation, there is a " best" rig to use. And how do you KNOW which is the best if you haven't tried several different combos with the same bait? It is a dilemma, to be sure. Throw that concept in with my personal penchant for "junk fishing" and all of a sudden multiple rigs appear in your boat. MY boat doesn't have rod storage, to speak of, so I transfer gear from the fishing truck to the boat for each trip. Currently that means 20 rigs, more or less. Of those 20, 5 or 6 are "back ups" unlikely to get used unless I backlash a reel badly or break a rod tip, something like that. Back ups get stored on the back deck, more or less out of the way. 3 Quote

Hook2Jaw Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 8 casting setups and 2 spinning setups for bass. Then I've got a surf setup and 5 inshore spinning setups. I'm done adding saltwater gear, but I still want to add a dedicated frog rod, Texas/skipping setup, and a long, light spinning setup for tossing a Ned rig. Quote
