Hey guys, I live in Wichita and am curious where everyone’s favorite lake is nearby. Living in Wichita, the surrounding reservoirs (Cheney and El Dorado) aren’t the best. Are you commuting to other lakes in KS or heading down to OK? Looking to get the boat out on some new water!

Best fishing in Wichita is easily going to be the sandpits but it's getting harder and harder to find any that will let a guy on them.  Butler is close but often windy, it's small and muddy but is a lot of fun for fishing frogs on.      Polk Daniels is another small lake that is set down in some hills and has descent protection from the wind, small bass and crappie are what I usually catch.  There are several other small lakes that you can catch fish on within an hour of Wichita but I suggest traveling a little further and then there are some lakes that fish real well.

Best ones are a little further out. Bone Creek near Pittsburg is a good bass lake. Sooner in OK has some big bass. Marion County Lake has good numbers (not Marion Resevoir). There's a really good pond in Wichita, if you don't want to use the boat for a day. It's behind Ruth Clark Elementary on 55th south and Meridian. I've caught as big as 8lb out of there in years past. Best frog and buzzbait fishing I've ever found in KS.

Might give a look to a few of these,  Melvern Lake, Milford Lake and  Wilson Lake.    There is also a Boy Scout Ranch that has a very nice lake in Sedan KS.  You can lease it but there are some restrictions on dates.   Lots of small to average bass, good to great crappie and a few smallmouth.
