Thought I would start this thread for those of us who have had bad shipping experiences.

This week I was almost two for two in this category.

First, I ordered another Lew’s Hank Parker casting rod from Walmart. It arrived in a square cardboard box no padding inside. The tip was protected by a piece of cardboard stapled in two places. The cardboard protected the top quarter of the rod. Upon removing the cardboard I inspected the rod everything was fine except the tips insert was missing. I searched the box and didn’t find it. It leads me to believe the rod was damaged before shipping. I am convinced this is true since when I went in store to return it the rod scanned at $9 I paid around $40 for the rod with tax. The only reason it would ring up for $9 is if it was in the clearance isle.

Second, while I was at work today my shipment from MidwayUSA arrived. I ordered a Irod Fiber clearance rod for $60. My son was home and brought the rod in when it arrived and sent me this pic.

You can imagine my reaction. I asked him to open it as by the grace of God if it wasn’t broken it was bent and I didn’t want it to  stay that way for the 5 hours it would take for me to get home and open it.

He was able to open it an extract the rod which was intact. When I arrived at home I inspected it and luckily there is no damage. It was bubble wrapped on both ends and covered in a plastic wrap. I give Irod credit for durability to withstand this treatment. The cardboard tube while better than Walmart’s cardboard box was not up to the rigors of shipping. Going to send them a pic for QA purposes.

Feel free to,share your own nightmares here and vent. It’s been a frustrating week for me and mail order fishing items.

For me it’s a story of non-shipment. I bought a BPS gift card to buy a stradic that is on sale for $199.99. I ordered it and they cancelled it on me three times. I went to call the CS number and there is a message at the beginning saying that they cannot do anything about your cancelled orders. I waited on hold about 15 minutes and then hung up.

Recently they have been taunting me with emails like “we think you forgot something in your cart” with  a picture of the stradic they won’t let me buy. In the grand scheme of things though, not a big deal. I’ll just keep waiting.

I ordered some stuff off of eBay two weeks ago. According to the tracking, USPS picked up the package the next day in Massachusetts. 14 days later, it still hasn’t arrived at my home near Chicago. I didn’t know the post office still shipped via stagecoach.

Does waiting a full month for orders from TW count as a nightmare ?

Seems like it should.

Haha that certainly qualifies. Do they still honor the 2-day and next day shipping? Maybe that would be the route to go?

I wish my rod tube from Midway USA looked as good as yours. I should have snapped a pic. Mine was mangled but somehow the rod seems ok.  And my other rod from Midway is m.i.a.  They have zero customer service to help me find it.

I got an Irod from Midway as well and my tube was bent like too. Rod however, was in tact (how I do not know).

I used this shipment as a test run for two reasons.

One to see what Irod is like. So far I like it, seems pretty nice.

Second to see what Midway’s shipping was like. Big fail on that one. Shipping was free and fast but the container stinks. If the rod came in a decent tube I would have ordered the clearance Irod Genesis II. No chance of that now.

I ordered 2 100 ct packs of 7" power worms straight from Berkley (Pure fishing) and when the box arrived there was only one pack in there. No big deal, mistakes happen, they will make it right. This was on a Friday. I sent an email to them through their "Contact us" part of their website. No reply from them on Monday so I figured I would give them a day. No email from them on Tuesday so I called. I was on hold about 15 min and gave up. Sent another email, this time from my email to their customer service dept. No response on Wed so I called again. On hold about 20 min this time until giving up. Thursday came and went with no response from them. I called again on Friday and was on hold 36 min this time and still didn't get to speak to anyone. I sent two more emails on Friday to 2 different emails that I could find online. Monday of the next week passed and I still had yet to hear from them. I called on Tuesday and stayed on hold for 44 min when someone finally answered. I told her what happened and what all I had tried to do to get it taken care of and she just gave me one excuse after the other. She kind of acted like she didn't believe that I didn't get both packs but finally said she would have another one shipped. Well, that was 9 business days ago now and they still aren't here. I will not be ordering directly from them again.

Revived a rod from Dobyns , the tube was bent and the tip was broken. I sent Dobyns the pics and a new rod is on the way, lets hope FedEx does not break this one.

I had a package at work we shipped to a customer via UPS that was to go to Berlin, PA.  UPS sent it to Berlin, Germany.  No customs invoice was with this package.  When it arrived in Germany, UPS called us to say there was no such address but it went through customs, all the way to Berlin.

As far as fishing stuff goes. ....  I had a reel held in customs because of the Shimano oil in the box.  They charged me, I think, a tax for holding it.   It was about $10.  No big deal but it took almost a month to figure out.

After a lot of hesitation and reading posts on another forum I ordered a reel from Japan (Digitaka) last week. It was at my front door in five days via DHL.

I had the same thing happen to me. Some things shipped from BPS and some from Cabelas but multiple deliveries over several days.

I continue to get flawless service from land b f and tackle warehouse.  Never a delay, never damaged packaging or product and never missing any items.  Even during the current covid situation they have both been great.

Midway shipped my reel nine days ago. Still waiting. Their tracking is poor. Shows it was turned over to post office three days ago for delivery with no further updates. Yuk.

Since Covid I've had both very quick, and very slow shipping from TW.   All were in stock.

Tackle Trap is one that is always quick.

I agree with jbrew, I have never had a problem with another site or tackle warehouse.

I've noticed all their "clearance" items are always sold out on their website. How many unsuspecting buyers have gotten excited about getting a good deal only to find out they are sold out is beyond me. You would think if an item sells out it would be taken off the clearance section of the website within a few days but I guess thats too complicated.

I sent them an email stating just what you mention above over a week ago and haven’t received a response.

I’ve just been dealing with slow shipments. Two day free shipments are not two days. But free shipping. Truth be known shipping is built in.

I’m not hard up for anything. TW is low and out of things I want but I can wait for it to be restocked.

But to receive damaged product I would be ticked. TW ships their rods in HD tubes.  I’m waiting on a rod from there. I’m sure everything will pan out. Good people to deal with.

Ordered a rod through Amazon a few months ago and UPS delivered it to the wrong address. Neither one of them are set up for that mistake. They see that it got delivered, and the delivery address in the computer is correct, so “case closed”. They just assume the UPS driver never delivers things to the wrong place. There’s no button to click on to report that problem, you have to go through customer service, and it takes a good bit of time and aggravation.

Once you finally get through, Amazon will ship another at no charge without blinking. The day after Amazon shipped my replacement rod, a neighbor that got the original shipment finally brought it to me, so I got two rods for the price of one in the end.

My only shipping nightmare was the Dobyn's rod sale from Sportsmans outfitters. It just took forever to get filled by Dobyn's, but I got my rods eventually and they have been awesome. It was just a bit nerve wracking because I have never ordered from the site before.

Good experience was outlet bait and tackle. Ordered Tuesday after 4 PM and it was delivered Saturday morning.
