Osuman77 Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 I’m upgrading my spinning rod and reel this year from a real basic gander mountain combo I’ve had for years. I got a really good deal on the 7’0” st Croix mojo yak spinning rod (medium power fast tip) from Dicks (manager gave me $40 off because they didn’t have the combo I went there looking for even though the inventory said they did). I only really bank fish, not kayak, the shorter handle doesn’t bother me. After doing hours of research I’ve kind of narrowed down to the Daiwa BG, Daiwa Fuego LT, and the Lew’s Custom Pro Speed Spin. Looking at the 2500-3000 sizes. I can’t make my mind up, all have many good reviews and very few bad ones. Anyone have some advice I’d appreciate it. Thanks! Quote
Born 2 fish Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 Out of the 3 the Fuego is a awesome reel I really don’t like the Lews spinning reel I bought my wife. Quote
shimando Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 I was recently in the market for a new reel and I was between the Dawia Regal LT and the Pflueger President. I purchased the Daiwa Regal LT and I am loving it. Feels solid, retrieve is very smooth, and it's not a bad looking reel either. Quote
optimator Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 I've got 2 BG 2500's. Hands down my favorite spinning reels. They're a little heavy but it doesn't matter to me. As soon as I see a sale I'll be picking up 2 more to replace my Sahara and President. Quote

I have loved my Regals, 15 year old regal Z and 5 year old regal XiAs, except for bail spring issues. If they have bail springs still they may break, all 3 of mine did. The 2 presidents I have one an XT other something different have been good reels for me. The thing I like about these two options is they don't break the bank. I think for what we need out of spinning reels, moderately priced options would fit most bass fisherman's needs. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted July 10, 2020 Super User Posted July 10, 2020 I have the Lew's Custom Pro Speed Spin in the 3000 size. It's a great reel, aluminum frame, Winn grip knob, smooth and bulletproof just a bit heavy. Wish I would have gotten the 2000 size. Can't go wrong with this reel it looks and performs fantastic. However, I recommend the Lew's Speed Spin reel for $59.99 it's become my favorite spinning reel in a short time. It's as smooth as the Custom Pro but being made of graphite its lighter (and cheaper) The handle is my favorite part. It's one where you reel backwards to tighten it. Lots of other Lew's spinning reels come with handles that tighten with a knob on the opposite side. I find these to come loose at the worse times and constantly need re-tightening. Quote
