A little heavier than 70 with 4 more bearing (supposedly knob bearing) and maybe aluminum handle side plate. If they don’t change anything else but MGL spool, MM gear and price the same. I’ll get one or two. Man, like I know this coming just sold one of my curado 70 a few days ago.

There's an SLX 70 MGL on the Shimano site as well. Curious if it's a 70 sized body, or just a shallower spool.

Same frame but yeah they're already similar in size to the Curado 70. Basically a SLX XT with a different paint job and a 70 size MGL spool. They've been available from Japan since last year but looks like they might be coming to the states. I got one recently and it's a sweet little reel for the price.

Looks like the existing 70 but with darker paint and green parts.  Spool capacity looks to be the same.  It must be lighter weight is all.

Similar to Daiwa re-releasing the 2016 Tatula CT as The 2020 Tatula CT but in a different color with new knobs.

Low effort.  Low energy

Not really man... Mgl spool,  Different drag star. Looks way nicer as well.

Maybe the fixed the geary feeling that some of the discontinued 70 reels exhibited after a few months of use.

Yeah, I much prefer the look of the all silver 70 over this new one. I never really cared for the green accents on my Curado K's. They don't match any of my rods at all. Oh well, I'll still probably grab one of these to try!

I wish Shimano would put their conical line guide on these smaller reels. It can't add that much cost. My $50 Kastking reel has one. Clearly Shimano knows it's effective because it's on their flagship models.

Let's hope. The slx and slx xt ended up the same way for me.

Same thing as alphas platform from DAIWA, how many model base on this alphas platform, from what? 15 years ago.

This MM gear and MGL spool have been asking for in small reel like base curado 70 for years. Not many buy JDM stuffs like you, so ppl hope that they released this type reel in US for whatever reason. Despite of being geary and all, the curado 70 still the most comfortable reel to palm, at least for me, alphas not even close or even the shimano 50 series itself.

I don’t give a d**n what that wanna call their reel. They answered those questions of new MM gear or MGL spool in 70 size reel.

If it was better looking I would probably get one.

I find it pretty ugly. The colors just don't match well.

Shimano should have made it all one color. The black nose piece really cheapens the look. It's like putting black plastic trim pieces all over a nice car. It just makes it look cheap.

I still have a few 70 series in arsenal, so I just stick to those.

This might be the first custom paint reel for me lol. Or better yet gutted this and swap with either curado or scorpion, use this for part or loaner. I’ve never been a fan of green accent anyway.

Its black and green, guys are acting like its black, orange, green, blue and pink ? Im picking one up, hopefully I can still get some bites dispite it not matching any of my rods.

I'm not too versed on Shimano JDM reels, or really not at all. To me this reel looks quite nice, and hopefully it's a better reel that the Curado 70 was. I understand a lot of people like matching the rods and reels, I'm not one of them.

To me this reel doesn't look all that different that a Curado K, which I think is a great looking reel.

I’m not rich like you to buy a gear swap for just that MM gear, and also no MGL SPOOL, that engetsu is as heavier as curado spool. Like I said not everyone into JDM gear like you.
BTW, I was looking into these reel and stile ever since I know it base on 70. Actually like when reel test guy did his you tube long time ago. That show how much I like 70 base shimano. Maybe 4 of my 70 can prove that.

It is not gonna be shallower since both are 70 capacity and same width. The reason the MGL spool is better at least for me is, the heaviness of 70 spool make it harder to control at the end of the cast since spool does want to stop. Doesn it matter with heavy lure? NO but I use my reel for finesse, weightless Finesse worm or roboworm, it does matter.

BTW that engetsu 100 is actually 50 size since I transfer the line from my CQ50 to stile and got almost the same amount of line.e

You spent 60-70 for gear swap yes you get a cool drag sound but you get one working reel. I’d rather spend 200 and got two good working reels.

Why is everyone so butthurt about a letter? So what it has a K on it, it has significant upgrades to an already great reel so it’s going to be a winner. I’ll definitely be buying one for a expride 6’10” m f
