volzfan59 Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 I was at Academy Sports yesterday. I decided to pick up some reel oil, and seeing that they had Lew's oil, made by Lucas I got some. I religiously use Lucas products in all of my vehicles. Anyway, they also had Lew's Reel Grease, again by Lucas, formulated for both casting and spinning reels? I always thought that reel grease was reel grease. Anyone ever heard of these products and what the difference is? Quote

Super User MN Fisher Posted July 6, 2020 Super User Posted July 6, 2020 I use the same grease for my spinning reels as I do for my baitcasters. Keeps things simple - one grease, one oil. 2 Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted July 6, 2020 Super User Posted July 6, 2020 Yes, there are 2 kinds of reel grease: 1) Good grease. This grease is OK for spinning as well as casting. 2) Bad grease. This grease is NOT OK for either spinning or casting. If you use the "search" feature, you'll see that many people advise the use of several brands of greases. jj 1 Quote
garroyo130 Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Everyone above pretty much said it. Interchangeable, but I will add that it comes down to preference. Personally I use Cal's on baitcasters but prefer a "lighter" feel on my spinning reels and opt for Yamalube on those. I imagine like some reel grease manufacturers the spinning grease is on the lighter side. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted July 7, 2020 Author Posted July 7, 2020 Thanks for the replies. I had never heard of different grease's for casting or spinning reels and thought I would ask. I've always used Abu Garcia oil and grease for everything. I had seen that Lucas made reel oil and wanted to try it. Like I said earlier, I use their vehicle products and gun oil. Thanks again! 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted July 7, 2020 Super User Posted July 7, 2020 I bought the Lew's baitcasting reel grease. I use it on both my baitcasters and spinning gear. 2 Quote
