Why are we so excited?

Because it's new and we're just big kids that like new toys.

I'm not really, and I'm not even in the market for a new spinning reel. just having fun. I know a lot of people will be excited about it though.

Because people get excited about new things, rods, reels, bass boats, cars, trucks, etc. etc.

Why are you so negative?

I have way too many spinning reels already. But I'll probably end up with at least two Vanfords to try out.

Like most people on here the monkey is always on my back.

Am I the only one that doesn’t like how it looks?? Looks like a reel you can get at Walmart in those plastic reel packages. Normally, Shimano Reels are a work of art but this does nothing for me.

I could care less about how a reel looks or how it might color coordinate on a rod, but i refuse to own a reel with a stupid name. Just sayin'.?

All these ridiculous names they have to come up with. Are any of them cool? Stradic, Chronarch, Curado???

The reels turn into something people have good feelings about after using them and catching fish with them, then they are cool names. Vanford sounds like some aristocratic jerkoff family. The Vanfords of Scottingbush have arrived.

I am sure it will sell very well. While I personally prefer the stradic FL appearance wise, I imagine the light weight version will appeal to many people.

Not really sure what's the deal with the name. I guess shimano wanted a name that stood out. Something different.

For many years just about all of shimano's spinning reel names started with a "S" - sienna,  spirex, Sahara, stradic, stella, etc. While all their casting reels started with a  "C" - curado, casitas, chronarch, core, etc.

I guess shimano is not restricted to any names, so they wanted something different this go around. I find the name silly myself, but they can name it whatever they want.

Shimano is a Japanese company, so that name could mean something else in Japanese. Who really knows.

Just picked up my new combo. Bought a vanford reel and a cumulus cloud rod.

I assume you mean you pre-ordered the reel?

So are they going with the old english pronunciation ?

Von-ford

Or the southern pronunciation?

Vaan-furd
