Super User MN Fisher Posted July 4, 2020 Super User Posted July 4, 2020 I toss my WP-90s with a Pflueger Supreme 7.1:1 on a 7' Diawa Aird-X MH/F. Line is 40# Sufix 832 with 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid leader. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted July 4, 2020 Super User Posted July 4, 2020 Lew’s Mach Crush combo. 30# Kastking Superpower braid. Quote
jdr99a Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Lews tournament mp 7.5:1, 7’ MH/F, power pro 30lb. The WP90 is my favorite size for the ponds I fish. 1 Quote
EzyEric Posted July 4, 2020 Posted July 4, 2020 Does the 90 still have a smaller prop? I know one of the complaints (or features) about it is that it plops less loud. Nice in some scenarios maybe. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 4, 2020 Super User Posted July 4, 2020 I use an older 7' MH/M-F Falcon Lowrider that's supposed to be made for Rattle Traps. I have a Lew's Tournament MB reel spooled with 15# Big Game mono. This is my rod for almost all standard size topwaters. The combo of the heavy mono and the rod action are great for topwaters when you have a lot of line out. I have another combo with a very worn BPS Johnny Morris reel on a 6-6 Lightning Rod with the same line that I'll throw the 110 size WP on. It's a 5.1:1 ratio. This is actually the perfect ratio for the speed you want with the WP. I only take it when I want to use the 110. Of course, the 90 gets more bites. But I fish from a kayak so the rod tip is lower than it would be in a boat. So the 90 has a tendency to want to submarine if the line is laying on the water until you reel up enough line to get it off the water surface.. The 110 is very buoyant. Quote
Super User tcbass Posted July 5, 2020 Super User Posted July 5, 2020 I did not like the 90s.....bought a 75 and loved them. Almost use them exclusively now. Quote
plawren53202 Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Dobyns Fury MH/F, Lew's Tournament MP in 7:1, 25# Sufix 832 and Sufix Advance 12# leader. 5 hours ago, EzyEric said: Does the 90 still have a smaller prop? Not sure if the 90 has a smaller prop or not, but the 75 definitely seems like it has a louder or lower plop. I like both for different situations. 90 when I want a slightly quieter presentation, 75 for louder like when more chop on the water. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 5, 2020 Global Moderator Posted July 5, 2020 Okuma Cerros 7.3:1, Ethos Micro 7' MH/F, 20lb Kastking Super Power braid, no leader. Swap the stock trebles for short shank EWG #6 Gamakatsu to help it ride higher. I fish the 90 way more than any other size. Quote
matbellon3 Posted July 5, 2020 Posted July 5, 2020 Shimano SLX HG, Dobyns Fury 703c, 30lb Power Pro SuperSlick V2 Onyx, sometimes a 12-14b mono leader in clear water. Quote

While you can make a WP 90 run decently using a higher rod angle , use a tiny #10 or #8 Spro Power Swivel and don't reel overly fast - I would either use the WP 75 or use a Berkley Choppo 90 (bigger / louder prop than the WP 90) .
