Lews new product line

Lews announced a ton of new products today. Headlined by a TON of KVD rod and reels. Certainly expected after signing him, time to reap the benefits.

Love that KVD baitcaster. Priced like a tournament MP and seems to be the same reel with a fancy paint job and different knobs.

 

I want one of those Mach Crush spinning combos. Hope the reel is still aluminum but I would still get one for that awesome Tennessee handle Winn grip rod. I was disappointed that the Crush baitcaster still seems to be graphite.

I like a KVD explaining the bait wraps. I expected yeh it saves me from tangles in the rod locker, nope not KVD it hides my baits from the competition;)

 

If I needed another spinning combo the Crush would be the way to go, but my spinning setups are dialed in. 
 

I will pick up two KVD baitcasters even though I love my Crush and the new one looks better lol. The KVD just sounds like a better reel.

You nailed it. Same old stuff with a name stamp and paint job. As for the pitching reel, Ardent did that years ago with Denny Brauer, see how that’s turned out. We here on the forum that pay attention to all this are a small fraction of the angling population and it’s a competitive industry so I understand the move but ya, I got a chuckle.

Kind of like how some of Strike King's crankbaits were were originally branded as FLW and sold at Wal Mart about 20-25 years ago.

I imagine it went something like this:

KVD: “I want to be hands on with developing my Lew’s reel and I want it to be a certain inches per turn for crankbaits.”

PDT (project development team) “Ok Kevin” *Goes to catalog and takes one part from column A and one from column B to make the reel Kevin requested.

I love all the commentary on how 25IPT is the perfect speed for crankbait fishing.  They seriously think they are speaking to a bunch of idiots.

 

Also seemed weird the guy that was all geeked out about the spool never mentioned 1 time what it weighed, or did I miss it.

Only made it in 2 minutes and 6.2:1 is a special requested ratio and bearing supported pinion is innovative. Lol

I believe the parts they use are all pretty much the same.  I kind of think he looked at the Doyo catalog and went..."I'll take this one.  Does it come in KVD Red?"  

 

I have a feeling after working for Quantum for years, he has little to do with anything in development.  That guy can catch fish with a kids Barbie rod and reel, better than I can with the best stuff available.

I thought this was odd as well.  It made not take the guy doing the video seriously.

I've seen well known pros on vid call the spool tension a centrifugal brake, call centrifugals magnetics and vice versa. Even KVD called his KVD MP reel's brakes externally adjustable centrifugal. He's having flashbacks from his stay at Quantum. I'm not surprised. Pros are no different than most people in that a fishing reel is a mystery to them. It's either too scary "inside" or they don't care about the tech.

I’m caught that as well. His Lew’s reel has dual brakes.

Ah, give KVD a break. I’d bet a floating Rapala minnow that he did contribute to the design. Someone had to pick the color scheme.

I think I seen that Houston or Dance video as well, it was flat out embarrassing on a couple of notes.  You would think you would want your rep of the equipment being familiar enough with the reel that they could identify the major components and their basic operation.  Also I would fire the editor for posting something so poorly made, but that's just it they think we are idiot's and wont notice.   I use to love KVD, he was one hell of a competitor and angler, now like many others in their declining years he is starting to sound like a shill huckster.  I am impressed with Lew's luring one of the sports more respected fisherman to rep their product but they will need to do a better job than this and let's face it KVD is not what he used to be.  At least the Dawon/Doyo reels he is hucking now are a lot more relevant than the Quantum line IMO.
