West Fishigan Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Taking some of the suggestions on terminal tackle storage from the forum, I opted for a Plano Edge Thin 3700 box. Did this take me an entire evening? Yes. Did I have to peel off, rewrite, and reposition each label so they were near perfectly straight? Yes. Did I enjoy every moment of it? Also yes. Does anybody enjoy the preparation and organization part of fishing almost as much as the fishing itself? 10 Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted July 2, 2020 BassResource.com Administrator Posted July 2, 2020 Oh which one? Got to give a big thank you to Plano, they have made this the best EDGE box for jigs and chatterbaits. We can store it and see exactly what we have. 4 Quote

Your box looks awesome. I do enjoy preparing, it's kind of my fishing fix when I can't be fishing, but organization is not my strongest trait so my final product doesn't look nearly as good as yours. I made major progress when a few weeks ago I bought the Academy/H2O terminal tackle box and "organized" my stuff in it (BTW, I was really impressed with the H2O box especially for $13 or however much it cost), but definitely no labeling like yours. 1 Quote
Hower08 Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Looks good. I looked at the plano edge boxes the other day and while nice I couldn't get myself to drop that much coin on one box. 1 Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted July 2, 2020 Super User Posted July 2, 2020 That is very organized. For my way of fishing though, it is way too organized, what I mean by that is too much stuff too close together. Speaking from experience, sooner or later, you're going to dump that box, then you will have a serious mess on your hands. Hope you don't, but I've had a couple of similar organizing experiments, and I spilled the box, and it was a mess. I keep stuff more separated now. I still label stuff, just use smaller boxes. 1 for worm weight tungsten, another for lead worm weights, another for finesse drop shot weights, another for bubba drop shot weights. Hooks stay in their own packaging in a single compartment box. Worm hooks are separated from drop shot hooks. Various styles of hooks intended to fish flukes & similar baits have a separate box, weighted hooks separated from non-weighted hooks, tx rig hooks separated from the hooks with the hitch hikers on them. You get the idea. I'm trying this system for the second year now, because I know that I'm clumsy and I'm going to spill a box or two, either on the boat or in the shop and this way, there is less to pick up. I'm ok that my system weighs more and takes up more space. The original poster's set up is cool and I get how it maximizes storage space. I hope you never dump that box, that you're always sure handed, in your shop and in your boat, but now I feel bad for having put that thought in you head. Quote

It does say Octopus hook but that's still huge. Maybe tarpon fishing?! @West Fishigan lives only about 20 minutes from me I could get him properly schooled in the art of a good drop shot. 2 Quote

Up to and possibly including the label maker itself. 8 hours ago, galyonj said: Respect. Small details make or break a project. Also I'm stupid jealous that you have legible handwriting. I appreciate it, but full disclosure, there were a number of reprints. My everyday handwriting looks like a 7 year old was given five cups of coffee and told to write out the chinese alphabet in ancient Sanskrit on a dirty paper towel. 6 hours ago, plawren53202 said: Your box looks awesome. I saw another post on this forum about that Terminal Box from Academy and took a look at it online for comparison. I really like the box as displayed, especially at that price, but the nearest academy is a loooong way from me here in West MI, and I do try to buy from my local small tackle shops as much as possible. I picked up the thin 3700 edge for $25 at a local place, and I feel pretty happy with that price point. If I lived in range of an Academy, it might be a different story. Also, I found those labels for $1.50 at my local meijer. They are "reuseable" which i took to mean they wouldn't leave too much sticky residue when peeled off to readjust the box layout. 6 hours ago, Hower08 said: Looks good. I struggled as well, and only spent the money after trying some cheaper, less satisfactory alternatives. I also looked at how many of the super cheap boxes I had that were not as durable or as functional and would need to be replaced every few years. This Edge box is incredibly sturdy and customizable, and I can't imagine it breaking down for years if not decades. 5 hours ago, A-Jay said: Nicely done ~ But I'm equally impressed that you drop shot with a 5/0 hook ! A-Jay I have not yet been able, but intend to use them for this "Powershot" technique I have read about, but I couldn't bring myself to actually write out a label that said "Powershot" because it sounds like a bad action movie title; definitely starring Jean Claude Van-Damme. Is 5/0 getting crazy for that technique? P.S. I used your handy rubber band technique for hardbaits/treble hooks storage and 3 months in I am quite pleased with results. 5 hours ago, Fishin' Fool said: Lol good eyes A-Jay! Have good impressions of Nunica because I got my golden retriever from a family there about 10 years ago this February; real nice area, reminds me of the small town I grew up in on the east side. Definitely looking to absorb knowledge about this stuff, especially drop shotting, so any advice is welcome. 1 Quote

Westcoast Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Pretty sure I spend more time prepping than I do actually fishing. Good thing I enjoy the anticipation too. 1 Quote

Not really in the open water season but in winter organizing my bass stuff is the only thing that keeps me sane. So certain times of the year I love organizing 1 Quote

I tried the Terminal box before getting the Thin. The box sits vertically in my backback, and I've not had issues with hooks spilling over, but I only really have two sets of smaller hooks, the 2/0 EWGs and 2/0 & 1/0 dropshots. There is a small gap between the lid and the top of the dividers that very small hooks might be able to get through if the box was really flipped and really jostled around. The Terminal box with its inner boxes would definitely prevent that. 1 Quote
Brayberry Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Thanks for o this thread I ordered the Academy Terminal Tackle box online. Quote

If I turn it over and shake it, there is definitely some migration of hooks up to the 3/0s. It seems to be minor, and I did shake the crap out of it, but trying to give an honest review. Quote

This x100! i love the “pregame” Of fishing like this and I nerd out completely especially with my bank fishing backpack and how I organize it. My problem is that I want to take $500 worth of lures and tackle in a bag that will not accommodate it. 1 Quote

Currently 4 3600 size boxes, 1 ziplock gallon bag full of soft plastics in clamshell packaging below. 2 10" tackle binders with soft plastics (worms in one, creatures, craws, etc, in the other) in the top with some ice packs to keep the plastics from melting, and a 3700 thin slid down behind it all for my terminal tackle. Plus scent, leader line, misc. tools. Stuffed into a spiderwire backpack I got from Meijer. 1 Quote

I keep a gallon ziploc bag with about 5-7 packs of soft plastics in it as well as three trays also similar to yours with my jigs and other hard baits in them with one tray for terminal tackle. It serves its purpose well and I can also keep drinking water stored too. Nice setup. 1 Quote
