CC268 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 Hey guys, It's been years since I've done any bass fishing - used to fish the Verde River in AZ a lot on my Pond Prowler. I've got a buddy who has a fishing boat now and goes to Lake Bartlett frequently. I've got a baitcaster and a spinning reel. The baitcaster is sort of my "all purpose" rig and I left my spinning reel for drop shot exclusively. If I remember correctly I was using 12 lb mono on the baitcaster and 8lb Seguar flourocarbon on the dropshot. The line is old and needs to be replaced. Based on some preliminary research I am thinking I may just completely switch over the flourocarbon for both (although I'm not sure I fish enough to justify the cost). Maybe 12 or 15lb flourocarbon on the baitcaster and stick with 8lb on the spinning reel for dropshot? Any feedback or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Quote
paulmandude Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I like using braid for sensitivity and practically never need replacing until it gets frayed. Learn a line to line knot for a leader in clear water. The ones I like are uni to uni and blood. Easiest to tie in my opinion. Another way to save money is use lots of mono backing and only spool 75 ft of braid. So you get two spools worth out of 150 yds. I would pick 50 lb test braid for bait caster if med/heavy or 30 for medium. 15-20lb test for spinning. Quote
plawren53202 Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 If you want something that is good, and easy to use as you get back into things, go with Sufix Advance. It's a copolymer and truly has the best of both mono and fluoro--soft and castable like mono, but much better sensitivity and less stretch than mono. And it doesn't cost a fortune. I have it spooled on my baitcaster and use it as my leader on my spinning rods with braid. I love braid but it can be a little fussy. To me Sufix Advance is the best of all worlds, and definitely what I suggest to newcomers to the sport or in your case having been out for a while. 2 Quote

greentrout Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 inexpensive quality line with excellent abrasion, knot strength and hook setting. i change the line fairly frequently and use a line conditioner ... can get stiff and kinks after some hard use ... good fishing ... Quote

Truth be told, if I had to fish with that the rest of my life, I’d be ok with that. Quote
Todd2 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 I've tried more than I care to share. Keep coming back to Stren. Quote
chubaka Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 I use 12lb Flouro Sunline FC Sniper for my baitcaster, for spinning I use 10lb braid Suffix 832. Has been working really well for me. Quote
