Weedless Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I broke my edge in Tourney Saturday cause i forgot to pull it up out of water before taking off....since the spot where i caught a 5# opened up....got WAY too excited..... Shopping time!! I been looking at the big 4, checking website, Minn and MG website overwhelming... however, im looking for 24v, shaft length for skeeter bass boat?, gps locking, but one that i can set a depth and it runs at that depth....? i have a new garmin Stryker plus 7sv on bow and a older echomap dv on consol. Preferably dont wanna buy electronics too. Whats my best options and how is it work to link my TM to run a certain depth? Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 29, 2020 Super User Posted June 29, 2020 MK links HB. MG links Low. Better check out the Garmin tm. I like at least a 45” shaft. Quote
slowworm Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 The Garmin Force isn't going to integrate with any of the electronics he has either, they are too old. It takes an Echomap plus or above to link to the force. Quote
Weedless Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 Thanks, I just wanna say that Motorguides website is terrible compared to others....its very hard to figure out differences and what features are on what and what they do. Quote

As far as I know, only Minn Kota will follow depth contours. And you will have to have it linked to a recent Hummingbird graph for the feature to work. Quote
Shimano_1 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 I honestly don't much care about linking graphs and trolling motors. I definitely see the advantages but all I want is the spotlock feature. Ive long been a motorguide guy and I'm patiently waiting on the new tour pro to be a little more mainstream. I haven't looked in the last few weeks but a month ago they weren't in stock anywhere. I can get the ultrex from my dealer a little cheaper than msrp but I want to know about the motorguide first. Buddy has the ghost and loves it but I'm not a Lowrance guy. The garmin is too expensive and I've hear of quite a few problems from the ultrex. Definitely a big decision given the price of any of em. Personally I will end up with an ultrex or tour pro by spring. As stated none of them are gonna work with those stryker units. Probably the safest bet is the ultrex they're everywhere and plenty of info out about them Quote

After much research, I ordered one on April 11th to use with my first generation Garmin EchoMap 93sv's. I knew it would be backordered but expected it in 90 days. I ordered it to pick up at Bass Pro so I could avoid the shipping cost. Last Friday Bass Pro cancelled my order. I called them because I wanted my order to remain active so I wouldn't go to the bottom of the backorder list. They said this wasn't possible because they cancelled all orders for this motor and had no clue when they would get any in stock. They are out of stock at TackleWarehouse also. I called Motorguide on Monday and spoke to a gentleman who stated that it would be months before they catch up. He said he typically gave out a number for sales to people like me, but that he was now prohibited from doing so. I suggested that Motorguide needs to communicate their status with these motors on their Facebook page, or somewhere, because there is no information as to when one can expect to get a motor. I am now looking at getting an Ultrex. My Garmin transducer is 8.3 inches long and won't fit between the skeg and the universal sonar housing as that space is 7.75 inches. I am debating either finding online, or fashioning something to fill in the space so that the Garmin transducer will lie flat against that and the bottom of the universal sonar. Or I could just get the Garmin Force, though I didn't want to pay over 3000 for a trolling motor. Decisions, decisions. Quote

Id say I'll go with the ultrex myself and I also have the regular 93sv the version before the echomap plus. Didnt realize this about the transducer. I do work in a fab shop tho so I could definitely fashion something from aluminum thatll work to shim up the space. Shoot me a pm and maybe I can help u out as well. Be just as easy to make a cple as it would one. Quote

Regarding the long Garmin transducer, I assume you are using the GT40 that came with the original units like me. That transducer can take a beating, but it is quite large. Quote

Mine came with the cv52hw transducer and I don't think mine is nearly that long Quote
Weedless Posted July 8, 2020 Author Posted July 8, 2020 Just to update you ladies and gentlemen, I purchased an xi5 from West Marine in CA....they only had 2 left. They warn you thats its the processing that takes long, but after chat with a guy who works there, he said if you purchase 2 day shipping, you get bumped to priority, so i picked 1 day shipping which was only $32. I ordered Wed night, amd it got here yesterday, Tuesday to PA. Which is amazing considering circumstances. Quote
