masssilversrt4 Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I have a Sunsei unit with control module that I plan on using on the boat.. Should have it installed this weekend will let you know how it works.. Quote
jim payne Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 The amount of power that is going to put into a battery is so small you will never charge a big battery with it. If you battery is almost full it might maintain the charge but don't buy it to charge a low battery. I wish they would because I have wanted to use them with our products for the longest time but they would have to be as big as your boat to work. Just the facts and nothing but the facts. I am not trying to be a smart a&& about it just know they won't work. Quote

bass or bass ? Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I have been successfully using a solar charger to recharge and maintain charge on both of my boat batteries. A week before a fishing trip I turn my battery switch to "both" and expose the solar charger to the sunlight. My batteries are fully charged by the time I head out. My charger is 18" x 12", got it at Harbor Freight Tools. The charger is mounted to my boat @ 18" from the batteries on the transom. Works great for me. Happy fishing. ~B.A.S.S.~N.A.F.C.~BoatU.S.~N.R.A.~A.M.A.~ Quote
CGH Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 bass or bass ? By chance do you know the model number of the Solar charger that you are using on your boat. I was at Harbor Freight last Saturday and looked at three different chargers. Stayncharge Not Doubting your data just keeping my options open!! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 21, 2009 Super User Posted March 21, 2009 Solar chargers. For those expecting some miracle for those panels, try this. Figure you have 1/2 run down a 100 amp hour battery and need to regain 50 amps. Look at the amp output of a solar panel and divide that into the 50 amps you need to recharge the battery to see how long with will take. Remember, for the longest battery life, a battery needs to be fully recharged shortly after use. The 15 watt 12V solar panel in the Harbor Freight catalog puts out 1.25 amps which would take 40 hours of sun exposure to recharge the 50 amps you need to recover the battery. Quote
