Plumb Boatin' Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 New owner of a 1987 Old Town Discovery 15ft flatback canoe with a question or two. This is my first boat and wanted to know if anyone had any ideas for upgrades or information about the O.T. boats from this timeframe. Looking at putting a 55lb thrust trolling motor on the back at some point. Also wondering if anyone has experience rowing this boat so my wife and I might know what to expect! Thank you for reading! Any info is appreciated! Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 28, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 28, 2020 Old town canoes are probably the best boats on the planet. I don’t own one but I’ve paddled many, they are awesome in every way. There’s a fella up in the north woods, @A-Jay, that catches a fish or two out of a square back old town canoe........ Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted June 28, 2020 Super User Posted June 28, 2020 @Plumb Boatin' Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I have an Old Town Predator square back that I purchased new in 2007. Super stable and an over all Great rig: it's still going strong. I run it both with & with out a trolling motor. It's not the easiest or smoothest rig to paddle but if you're up for it, it's doable. A Minn Kota 50 lb when I'm not paddling. I added a small tool caddy and a rod holder unit. I've posted a few videos here of trips where I fish alone & some with my wife. I've got a lot of hours in the Old Town. Here's a few pic's and a link to some video. A-Jay Quote
