Rod suggestions for Tatula SV TW103

Basically replacing the spinning set up for lighter applications and finesse to carry two rods most of the time. I’ll still have spinning in the car. Looking to cast and flip light T-rigs 1/8-1/4, senkos, flukes, whackeys, neds, light shakeys etc on the sv... I’ll prob run straight fluro 8-10lb. Want to be able to do 3/16-5/8ths give or take. Thinking 6’8 to 7 ft. 
 

Thinking Avid X or Dobyns 703 Champion. Or your other suggestions. Thoughts here ? Don’t know much about the Brent Ehrler Rods but I’ve heard good things. I’m open around $250 or so.

The 7’ Tatula Elite M/MH Ehrler will be right up your alley. The tip is XF, but it’s very soft so it can handle all those presentations. TW July 4th is coming up so that’s probably your best bet for a discount on that rod.

   I can't tell you anything about the suitability of the rod for your purposes, but I know one guy who uses an Avid-X and has fluorocarbon on it. He loves it. I took a couple casts with it, and I have to agree that those micro guides handled the FC line quite well. And this was back when I thought that I'd never, ever use FC line. YMMV.      jj

I have a Dobyns 734c with a Curado  DC and had an Avid X with a Curado K. Microguide issues with braid and I was bombing casts about 30ft further with the dc. I think the avid x would be great from what I hear about this Reel. Curious about the Ehrler too. I’d love to handle them but lots of local shops are sold out. Thanks for your feedback.

Good call on the sales. Bday coming up. I think the 7 speed reel and that rod are sold out many places. I’m in no rush. Going to hit Tackle Supply Depot near my house and try to feel something in my hands. Appreciate the feedback.

For around $250, I'd look at the 6'10" M Expride. Those bites are right in the wheelhouse and it's quite a bit more sensitive than the Avid and Champions. The Tatula Elite AGS 7' M-MH is a great rod too. I've been using it for weightless plastics and the tip on it is light enough to cast the lighter stuff, but it still has decent backbone to drive single hooks home.

At some point I’m going to get one and pair it with a stradic. I’ve heard so much about the two. I don’t know if I could use an sv on a shimano rod lol. I figure medium stick to get a little more distance out of it and to have a bit more fun on the fight. The Daiwa is a M MH?

I have your reel. I switch it off between a 6’6” M/F Veritas for smaller topwaters and a 7’ M/F Kistler Magnesium2 for 4” Senkos and other lighter plastics.

 

It does a great job for either application.

I'd definitely do medium or medium light, depending on the rod specs. A heavier rod won't provide much cushion for 8-10lb line. The Daiwa is indeed a M-MH. It's like a softer medium tip section, then a MH in the lower sections.

I have the Tatula M/MH and the Kistler Mag3 LMH. IMO the tip is better (softer) on the Kistler for lighter weights, at least the way I cast. Senkos and flukes are just about perfect on it. Ned rigs (assuming 1/15 or 1/10 heads) are a little light. If you are really throwing a Ned I think they are both a little heavy for it. Lighter line will probably help some. If you are mostly throwing light t-rigs, senkos, etc those are likely more like 1/3oz all-in. 

 

I have one MH Avid, and it really feels more like a H, so that probably follows down the whole line.

I wish! Honestly I have to give someone a list for a bday gift. I keep changing because I don’t need many rods. Some of the problem is stock and being able to hold them. Plus so much stuff is sold out. Bottom, line when I buy stuff I like to have it last for a while especially when I’m spending cash. I don’t see myself having more than 2 bc and I’ll replace my spinning set up in time. Maybe a frog rod at some point but I rely on you guys and YouTube. In my neck of the woods you have big box bs. Mostly salt in my area being on the coast. So yeah I can’t make up my mind lol

I guess you need to go more by the ratings. My 734 is a heavy but more like a mh.

Bumping this up, was hoping to get some feedback from any owners  (@Tywithay @Junger @txchaser) on how the daiwa ehrler m-mh finesse rods taper and action might work for hard baits,  I understand it’s xfst but has a softer tip than a typical mh rod, hoping it’s suitable for lures such as jerks (pointer 100), 2.5 sq bills, and topwaters (spooks) in the 1/2oz to 3/4oz range, any info appreciated.

IMO the tip is on the X end of XF. It is really nice and crisp. But it would be near the bottom of my list for most of what you described above.

When I use a jerkbait, I don't like slower/light power rods where I'm moving my arms 3 feet to give the action. I prefer smaller/crisp wrist jerks and the 7' Ehrler is fantastic for me for hard/soft jerkbaits. It will work for squarebills, but losen up the drag a little. It will work with 1/2 spooks and they will walk great, but you're going to be pushing the rod tip's with any 3/4oz lure, hard or soft, but it will be manageable if you don't whip it hard. When I go bank fishing, the 7' Ehrler is the rod I take because I can throw almost anything on it, 1/8oz inline spinners to lob casting Jack Gantarel Jrs with a customized Alphas SV105.
