I have a 7' M Shimano Expride spinning rod on the way to me. Now I am looking for a reel to pair it with. I am a Shimano guy and am trying to decide on which reel to go with. A buddy bought 2 of the Ci4+ reels from Bass Pro when they were on sale and would sell me one so that is one way to go. I am also considering the Stradic FL but I cannot seem to find one locally to handle. I am not too worried about it because it gets terrific reviews and I am familiar with the Stradic line. My question goes more to the difference in reel weight and how it would pair on this particular rod. It sounds like the FL is actually a nicer reel but that the Ci4+ is noticeably lighter. I guess I am looking for opinions here, especially those who own this rod and have an idea if a lighter or bit heavier reel would pair better.

If you wait a few months there should be a new Ci4 model based on the FL.

Are talking a 2500, or 3000 size?  The only difference is the 3000 has a larger spool. giving you more line.  My choice would be a 3000.

Pretty sure the 3000 uses carbontex drag washers vs. felt for the 2500.

The Expride is a very lightweight rod. I think the CI4+ would compliment it better. The FL is a great reel and I use mine regularly, but it is a better fit on longer and/or heavier rods that need balanced, or heavier applications.

I have a 7’ light plus expride with an fk on it (bought it a month before the fl came out :(.. ) and it feels nice. The heavier medium rod would probably compliment it better. Plus the colour would go so well together. I have my ci4 + on my nrx and love both reels. I’m looking at getting the fl next to try... that or the exsence if I can talk my wife in to getting it for my birthday lol

I have that exact same Expride paired with the CI4+ 2500 and love it. Very light and balances well. You can easily fish that combo all day long.
