waymont Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Anyone have experience with this line? Use an FG knot with it? Quote
Super User Teal Posted June 25, 2020 Super User Posted June 25, 2020 I've been buying it. I like it. Double uni knot. Quote
optimator Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 I started using it last month. So far I love it, no problems at all. I use a Lefty Kreh knot. Quote
nascar2428 Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 I have been using the J-8 for a couple of years now with great success. It is a soft braid which at times will fluff up and birds nest on long casts. I purchased the J-8 grand this year, seems to be a little more supple which is what I was hoping for. I use the alberto knot for connecting leader line. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted June 25, 2020 Super User Posted June 25, 2020 What size? On casting or spinning? I have 30lb on my baitcaster and it is okay, soft and quiet. The color is faded easily but same as PP. I have smaller one on spinning but don’t like it, a lot of tip wrap and harder to deal with windknot. I like Sufix 832 better for both casting and spinning. If color fade bothers you I take care of that with a sharpie. You can color several feet of it, or color in a hash pattern...I call that red neck camo. For the op. I use 50lb on most of my set ups with various leaders. To me, it compares to a quality old school braid like power pro. I started buying it because I can buy it a few bucks cheaper. I have some 30 as well but only one a spinning rod and 1 bait cast rod. Quote
GaterB Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 I just started using the Grand, seems like good stuff and ties a good FG knot. I’ve been underwhelmed with Maxcuatro of late and have been looking for an alternative. I use braid to a leader on all my combos. So far so good with Grand! 1 Quote

I agree if the braid fades you can use a sharpie. I have been doing this with the Seaguar Smackdown. However, J Braid doesn't fade, it actually bleeds lol. Great line but I don't use it because of that reason. 1 Quote

Great line but I don't use it because of that reason. I remembered one time I spool j-braid chartreuse on my curado 50. Man on man that white turn yellow-greenish tint in one spot. Quote

I use PP and PP Super Slick V2 and like them both. I was looking for an 8 braid that was as good as V2 but cheaper. Maybe the grand is the way to go? Quote
THE_Vue's Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Good line but I'm still searching for the one that will not collect or hold water. Quote

Maybe the grand is the way to go? I haven’t tried the V2, but I have used the original super slick and PP. J Braid Grand has been similar to what I remember from OG super slick. Time will tell if it’s better/worse, and I still want to sample V2 for comparison. Price is certainly better and with the performance I’ve seen thus far V2 would have to be a major improvement for me to switch back. Hope that helps! 1 Quote

Give you line a squirt of KVD Line and Lure it is hydrophobic (repels water) keeps the line supple and some say it helps with line fade. Quote
Super User GreenPig Posted June 26, 2020 Super User Posted June 26, 2020 A couple weeks ago I swapped from original PP 65 lb to the Daiwa J braid 50 lb on my frog rod. It easily increased my casting distance by 10 yards with less effort. Quote
