papajoe222 Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 I love fishing hard baits during the summer. Cranks, spinnerbaits, topwater all get a work out once the summer kicks into gear. This year, I switched things up a little. Lipless cranks and cranks in general have been replaced with blade baits. Shallow running cranks have been replaced by minnow baits (jerk baits). I normally reserve these two baits for spring, pre-spawn, but decided to keep them tied on. I even found a guy that makes 3/8oz. blade baits, so I can fish them deep. Needless to say, they are still producing quality fish into the summer. Anyone else use them with regularity this time of the year? Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 25, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 25, 2020 When you say blade baits, do you mean like a silver buddy or an under spin? 3/8 oz is on the light end for a silver buddy type blade bait Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 29, 2020 Author Posted June 29, 2020 Yes, Gay Blade, Silver Buddy blade baits. On 6/24/2020 at 10:16 PM, A-Jay said: Nope, you're the only guy. mrpao Posted June 29, 2020 Posted June 29, 2020 I keep a blade bait tied on year round. They are great to drop down into deeper water when I see fish on the fish finder. Also great to cast to schooling bass because they are easily bomb casted. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted June 30, 2020 Super User Posted June 30, 2020 I have used the Cordell Gay Blade in summer with success but its not a lure I use a lot . Little George lures and jigging spoons too . Quote

Not many do and I think that’s why it’s been so effective. I’ve never used a Little George, but I will be giving the some consideration this summer, too. 1 Quote
JoePhish Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 I fish jerkbaits all year long. I jerk them more aggressively when the weather warms up. I'll almost always have a floating jerk bait tied on during the summer. My favorite is a Zerek Sabre Dance 85 in Black Shad (chrome with a white belly and black back). Also like the Yo-Zuri Floating Pin's Minnow in Chartreuse. The new Rapala Rap V Blade has me thinking about fishing blade baits in the summer. Quote
