NavyVet Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 I have VERY limited space in my boat for a variety of set-ups. I have a Dobyns Champion 705CB, Med./Hvy with a Mod/Fast Action that has been used very little. Would this rod work for light top water like poppers, buzz baits. and 3/8 oz. chatterbaits with a trailer, and an occasional light Chopo? Would likely be used with quality 12lb. mono. Quote
Super User jimmyjoe Posted June 24, 2020 Super User Posted June 24, 2020 Try it and see. I have a H/M fiberglass rod that I use for everything except bottom contact. Most bass fishermen try to get me committed, but I love that rod and do well with it. Probably some people here will tell you that your rod is not good for this or that, but in the final analysis it's up to you. What if you try it for that and love it? Are you gonna believe the naysayers then? I don't think so. And what if everyone says it's just purrrrfect but you hate it? Then what? Will you continue to use it even if you hate it for those things? Uh .... nope. So go ahead .... try it. See what you think. You're the only one that matters. ? jj 1 Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 As jimmyjoe said try it and see how you like it. I fish a Daiwa Regular action rod a lot and it is equivalent to most MOD/Fast action rods, I prefer this action for single hook moving type baits. For topwater I prefer a Fast or Extra Fast action type rod. Quote
Glaucus Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 The 705CB Fury is a whip. I'd say poppers would be great but I wouldn't be throwing buzzbaits and chatterbaits on it. 2 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 25, 2020 Super User Posted June 25, 2020 I'm with Glaucus - my 705CB is crank/jerk primarily, with poppers and light, plastic swimbaits secondly. I use a MH/F which is stouter for chatter/buzzbaits. Quote
Derek1 Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 I use mine for 1/2 Spinnerbaits and love it. I’ve used it for chatter baits also. Almost never loose a Spinnerbait fish with it. Quote
