Boat anglers: even if I don’t see them, or I’m on a body of water that can’t support them, I know they’re out there. Probably catching more fish, too. 2. Thinking about golf course ponds while fishing the public park. Why the heck do you stock them if you don’t want people fishing them? You can take your 10+ pounders. I didn’t want them anyway! 3. Urban fishing spots: They’re littered, they smell bad, they’re overly fished, I’m afraid to touch the water because I don’t want to lose my hand/life. But, I go back because I caught that one bass 3 years ago, so I know they’re in there. 4. Beautiful, sunny, summer days. Why did I even bother fishing? It’s so nice out, but instead of enjoying it, it’s hot, I’m drenched, I’m low on drinking water, and not one of these fish want this dumb stick bait. Humor aside, not being at work is a win. It's actually pretty common to stock bass in golf course ponds even if nobody can fish it. Bluegills are stocked to control the bugs, bass are stocked to control the bluegills and carp are usually stocked aswell to control excessive vegetation. There's a million golf course ponds around here that I know are loaded with bass lol but if I tried fishing em I'd go to jail lol. Quote

I’ll be sitting there fishing the beat up city pond, with cut bait laying all over, diapers on park benches, and a grocery cart in the parking lot, thinking about those pretty manicured golf courses and their stocked bass. I did not know those were the reasons they’re stocked though. Pretty cool. Quote

Mw Michaelis Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Like most trash dogs or kids running loose thieves that steal your stuff when your back is turned people bugging me and smoking. I am a bad asthmatic missing half a lung dont help either and if I smell smoke it just about does me in. I have had so called friends quit being friends with me because I do not allow smoking at my house in my house or yard. it triggers asthma attacks. Out in public I do not have much say in the matter except if I take my boat then I do. but when I am fishing on the bank I will ask someone to not smoke while by me or step away farther from me. If it offends some one oh well my health comes first for me then someone wanting to destroy theirs and others with their smoke. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted October 5, 2020 Super User Posted October 5, 2020 This weekend I had several fishermen approach me when I was fishing with my wife. These fishermen where following the ''bent rod pattern'' since they saw me catching fish. I understand they where desperate to catch fish but people need to understand that it is rude to bother a couple fishing. I had to change locations several times and fortunately for me I caught lots of fish in each of the places I fished. Surfcaster79 Posted April 18, 2021 Posted April 18, 2021 people using boats or yaks and getting to close.. and its never another fisherman in a yak always the recreational yakker. When I fished saltwater at a inlet if a boat guy got close and would drift right in front of where i was fishing it wasn't uncommon that a treble hook was launched in that direction, I heard of someone bouncing a pencil popper off of a guys boat ? 1 Quote

garroyo130 Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 A recent one for me has been finding "trot lines" which are really just a stick with fishing line with a hook tied to it and wrapped around a stick or dock piling ... most likely kids but still ... why!?!?!? Quote

I had one shout at me to wear a mask last weekend at a pond I was fishing and I shouted back at her "it must take a lot of ****s to not be wearing one yourself" and she got in my face saying "excuse me blah blah you have no idea who you're talking too blah blah I work for the town sanitation department" I told her to get the garbage men to come pick up the trash here and let's just say she walked away and kept her mouth quiet. Defend yourself while fishing guys, don't let anyone intimidate you out on the water like that. I have never had such encounters with anyone yet it sounds like you have them all the time. I must be doing something wrong. As for being annoyed by people talking to me while I'm fishing.....never happened. I'm pretty friendly and I do like to fish alone, but wow yeah, go ahead and say hi to me. Ask me what I'm doing. If I don't want to talk I may tell you that or let you know that politely. Probably not. I've weighed fish for kids before, talked about bait, got advice I didn't need. What a nightmare!!! 1 Quote
TheBasslayer Posted April 21, 2021 Posted April 21, 2021 I am a bank fisherman, and these are the things that annoy me. 1. The limited range you can fish. 2. The amount of line and trash that other careless fisherman leave behind. 3. When there is tons and tons of goose poop when I'm trying to get to my spot. These things just make me mad. That's why I want a boat when I'm older, or I wade with my waders. Quote
youngpky Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 I think everyone agrees with the amount of trash that is everywhere (Not just at public lakes/ponds along the bank). I definitely try to pick up at least a few items and put them in the trash when I can. A day on the water, even when fishing along the bank, is better than a day at work! Quote
throttleplate Posted April 22, 2021 Posted April 22, 2021 no matter where i go i find trash stuffed under rocks and worse when a car parks and then leaves they throw all their fast food wrappers out the door. Fricken scum of the earth some people are. Quote

Slowly bank fishing his way toward me. Watched him catch a fish a few hundred yards from me. This thread entered my mind. I was grumbling to myself..."He sees me right? Dude go away...." I made eye contact and said "how's it goin?". He asked if he could cast and fish through, and I said "Ya go ahead", a little grudgingly. He didn't pick up on that and I'm glad. Sometimes when I'm out fishing alone it takes a second to remember how to be social. I'm there with my own thoughts and suddenly someone intrudes on that - it takes a second to snap out of it. But they aren't intruding - it's usually just some other hack out there trying to figure out what the bass want. Nothing sinister. I didn't really want him to fish there, and I had caught fish here the day before, but he asked politely and I wasn't cacthing anyways. We talked for a few, he told me he was catching them with a jerk bait and that it's the only bait he brought. He was catching fish, I was not. Really nice guy. He came back by a little later and said he caught two more. I was too tired to try anything different by then, but I feel like any info would be helpful on a lake I've never fished before. This was New Melones, a very large lake, and I didn't see another soul fishing all week long. Was weird. Maybe one or two boats of any kind. I was on a point of a huge lake and all alone. What's there to be upset about? He could have been someone from this forum for all I know. If you see me fishing, say hi. Quote

AManWearingAHat Posted April 26, 2021 Posted April 26, 2021 1. TRASH, like many I usually bring a grocery bag with me to pick up trash left by other fisherman. Why some anglers have to be such pigs I will never understand. You carried it there, carry it out. As others have said, the live bait types are the worst. Luckily there’s usually worms left and they go right home to my garden! Do people really not get that these natural resources warrant respect and preservation? 2. The Bucket crowd. I used to fish around Chicago and the bucket fishermen were always the absolute worst. Never had a license and kept absolutely everything, totally ignoring limits and sizes. One who I asked about his undersized fish said he just threw them all in a blender at home... Crook county almost never did anything about it. The overwhelming number of these types have completely destroyed several county lakes in a few short years 3. Trash, but in trout streams. I absolutely love stream fishing for trout. Nothing depresses me more when wading a pristine clear cold water stream away from it all, then tripping over an old tire... 4. Swimmers. One of my local spots is a popular spot in the summer to swim. No problem. Most of the lap swimmers are courteous and stay out of casting distance of the shore. Some don’t... skipping a crank bait near them can change their trajectory though, not that I would ever do such a thing ? 5. The chatty Kathy’s. I don’t mind helping fellow anglers out from time to time or saying hi, but some people won’t shut up. 6. People who think the whole lake needs to hear their music / party. I feel a little curmudgeon-y for this one but come on, a little courtesy to others on the water. 7. Not owning a boat ☹️ 1 Quote
