Jason.Domingo Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 Trash, other fishermen pulling up next to you and casting, and believe or not people descaling and gutting a decent sized bass right away after being caught. Like cmon, I know you’re entitled to keep fish that you caught if its legal limit but d**n do it at home. Quote

It’s 30 feet in the air and yet SOMEHOW, these maniacs manage to get entire balls of line caught up there. I swear, there’s one ball of line that’s been hanging up there for like five years. I taught him how to tie a Palomar and rig a simple split shot rig. I also moved so he could fish my spot. He caught a 5lber shortly after and was excited as can be. He released it so I was glad to help him have that experience. 4 Quote

I don't mind saying hi and a quick good luck as we pass each other, but I'm out here to fish, as you can plainly see by the fact that it looks like a tackle aisle exploded at my feet. When I released it they said something to the effect of your just fun fishing, not fishing for dinner. As soon as I said that’s right, they got a real confused look and than began skipping rocks all around the pool I was fishing.  I wasn’t particularly thrilled by that. Quote

There is a pond back there that is right off the trail. There’s houses on the other side. I fished the park side once- no fish but no problem. The next time I go , here comes a lady around the pond from the houses saying I cant fish there its private property, which I found hard to believe. It’s literally 30 feet from the trail and not posted. I wasnt catching anything anyway but gave her a couple verbal salvos as I left . I  Wasnt hurting anything and she just had to do that. I tried to find the park property line in a property search online but its not clear who owns it. There was a no fishing sign across the pond according to the lady , but I couldn’t see it where I was. The sign was right - “ no fishing” could have been shortened to “ no fish “ because I caught nothing...so I didnt stand and argue, just left. Quote

I came out there a couple months later and the sign saying "NO FISHING" was gone! Thats cool but it reminded me of one of my fave saltwater spots at a marina. I would fish there and the owner and boat owners did not have a problem, well told a buddy about the spot who had a boat there and his family started fishing there... They started to fish their alot but only for perch because that was all they could catch, anyway went there yesterday and after catching 5 rockfish a dude (who has seen me fishing their before and did not care) came out of no where and said "no fishing its posted" and sure enough a new NO FISHING sign is up I dont know if my buddys family has something to do with it because I have fished there for 2 years with out a problem, then they start fishing their for like 2 months and its no longer fishable, It also sucks because where I live there are not alot of places to fish.    Quote

Some will let you fish behind their house as long as you are respectful. Others are not so nice and unreasonable to say the least. Best thing to do is be respectful, clean any mess you make, and leave if they cause problems. You need to show them fishermen are good people so they let responsible fishermen fish in peace. If not they will put more no fishing signs in areas that allowed fishing before and you will not be allowed to fish these places again. 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted July 2, 2020 Super User Posted July 2, 2020 I use to fish the local harbors (saltwater) about 95 % of the docks I fished had big boats, I'd guess the least expensive boat was about 250k up to a tad over 1 million bucks. Being in a float tube has advantages, you get into places where even yaks can't go.  In the 4 years I fished these docks, not 1 single owner said No fishing, Until, a bunch of young guys, mostly under 21 began fishing the docks. The problem was they would be throwing big ole lures that were way over sized for the spotties, checkers and sandies in those waters. Every now and then I would hear a Clunk type sound, and more than once. Turns out these dudes were hitting peoples boats, and in some cases leaving some nice scratches in the gelcoat. One dock in particular was a favorite as it was the first dock after the seawall, and usually produced the greatest number and size of spotties. Welp, the owner who did fishing charters was on his dock at 7 am one day, as I rolled up, he told me, no more fishing around his dock on account of the damage that was to the sides of his Expensive boat.  I tried explaining to him, who I thought it was, and that I've never hit anyone's boat with a lure. Being the nice guy that he was, said look, I know it's not you, and I know who it is, but if I let you fish it, then I can't say no to anyone else, to which I agreed, and let him know I'd skip his dock from now on.  Fast forward to about a month and a week later. Hadn't seen any of the guys doing the damage to boats, happens that my favorite dock owner was out working on his boat, and saw me kicking by. He called me over, and said that it seems the reckless casters had not been around for a good while, and if I wanted to continue to fish his dock, that I was welcome to do so. Now, he didn't have to tell me that, and could have kept the no fishing deal going on. I thanked him very much, and added that he was one of the Good guys out there.  So, there are good and bad folks, I try and give folks a chance to expose their good side, in this case, it could have gone the other way, I was happy to say the least, as his dock helped produce my winning bag in a small club tourney that made me a tad over $ 200.00.  5 Quote

I follow these guidelines: 1.  Never fish in anyone’s yard. 2.Never cross anyone’s yard to get to water. 3. I never fish where there is a no trespassing or no fishing sign. 4. If I get asked to leave I usually comply. There are other spots.  Where I do go is city and state parks, schools ( when kids arent there ), business parks ( during off hours, and especially closed businesses. ) , D.O.T ponds  alongside of roadways , nieghborhood common areas, and city common areas. I generally fish the small to medium sized ones so the fish are easier to find.  I like ones with some aquatic vegetation around the edges. Following these guidelines, Ive minimized issues, but once in a while, MR or Mrs Crabbs will show up anyway... 1 Quote
