Guitarfish Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 All the above, but especially the smoking. I have had to tell people to not throw another butt in the Pacific while on my boat. Really get steamed at smokers tossing butts. Quote

Glaucus Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 - When someone sees me catching fish and moves close to me in an attempt to catch the fish I found. * There was a particularly nasty incident of this a couple of weeks ago. I was on them in a shaded corner of a highly pressured pond with a tough bite. After 7 or 8 bass, a man and a woman were hoofing it in my direction. They got close and the man angrily shouted, "yeah, we see you catching fish over here," and then proceeded to stand 10 feet from me. I had been using a fluke with whatever retrieve was working that day. He looked to be an old school guy. He had 1 baitcaster with him with a big spinnerbait on it. Rather than get angry, I decided to embarrass him in front of his woman by using something I was confident that he either hadn't heard of or hadn't fished: a Ned Rig, 1/15oz ShroomZ with a Coppertreuse TRD. I stopped counting how many fish I caught while he got skunked. I did feel bad for his woman because he started to take the frustration out on her. ... - When someone stops to ask me if I've caught anything, what I'm using, and then wants to continue a conversation with me, a complete stranger to them trying to enjoy a day of fishing, about absolutely any and all irrelevant topics. They think they're being friendly, but not counting the fact that I have high functioning ASD (Aspergers) and don't like to be bothered by people, I'm out there ignoring everything else in the world and focusing only on fishing for a reason. I'm there to fish, not to chat, and I'm certainly not telling anyone over the age of 16 how I'm catching fish. - When someone shrieks at me for releasing my catch. I hadn't had this problem before, but since moving to the Indianapolis area, multiple Mexicans who speak poor English have seen me toss my bass back into the water and freak out that I'm not keeping them to eat. I get it from a cultural perspective, but leave me alone. You don't agree with me practicing C&R and I don't agree with you keeping fish from a public pond, but I don't bother you for it so....leave me alone. - TRASH. Humans are disgusting in their lack of care for the environment. ... That's about it. I'm a simple guy. Please don't try to talk to me for 15 minutes while I'm trying to fish; don't be a jerk and invade my space; don't question me; and pick up your trash. 3 Quote

Most of the time they are inexperienced boaters who do not know how to fish well and want to see what you are using since you are catching fish on the bank yet they are not in boat. It is amazing how desperate some boaters can get to catch a bass! 1 Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted August 4, 2020 Super User Posted August 4, 2020 I've had multiple guys in boats in the past few weeks see me catch fish then they pull right in on top of where I'm casting in an attempt to get in on the bite but driving over it like morons and ruining it for both of us. I'm always thinking dude you have a boat so you have way more access than me so go find your own fish.Pathetic. 1 Quote

lunkerboss923 Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Bald cypress trees...roots, knees...etc Those trees alone have cost me about $150 in lures. I really don't like them Quote

Thank to my ex wife, nothing in the world can make me even little upset so nothing near anger, haha..... 1 Quote
sbhall Posted August 13, 2020 Posted August 13, 2020 1. Getting to close to me while I’m fishing. 2. Smoking 3. Littering 4. Allowing yourself dog to jump in the lake while I’m fishing. Especially, if you’re too close. Quote

Super User BrianMDTX Posted August 18, 2020 Super User Posted August 18, 2020 Unless they are right next to you (which is part of this topic), I’m not sure what the deal is with smoking. As long as they police their butts and don’t leave them on the bank (bad) or flick them in the water (worse), it shouldn’t be that big a deal if they are not within casting distance. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted August 19, 2020 Super User Posted August 19, 2020 Former smokers are often sensitive to the smoke and the odor, even at long distances. Quote

Especially, if you’re too close. Had this happen the other day. The owner was throwing some kind of chew toy for his dog to retrieve. It was time to move on as nothing is going to bite with that going on. I will add unleashed dogs to the list. Especially on a public walking trail. No matter how early you are out there still might be people about. I was coming on to a trail from the waters edge and walked right up to a unleashed dog yesterday. She started growling at me. Owner walked up and said "She's friendly, it's the fishing poles she is reacting to." I never said a word just waited for them to pass so as not to provoke the dog and then moved on. Quote
SmallieKing7 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 1. Litter. 2. Spots that look like they would definitely hold bass, but are only reachable with a boat. 3. Folks who don't realize I'm there to fish, not start a 45 minute conversation (I don't get out too often, so every moment out counts for me) Quote
Ryan024 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I hate to say this, but my kids. They always want to go fishing with me, but after 20 minutes of me un tangling thier lines they are done and then they start screaming tag your it, throwing rocks, digging in the goose poop mud, asking to pet and release every fish I catch and then say they want to go home the rest of the time.. ugh.. its hard to say no because I always hope they will catch the big one and remember the "good times" fishing with dad. And trashhh.. lazy jerks. Its always broken glass bottles and worm containers.. Quote

He said “Son, I wish when I first took you and your brother fishing, I would have left my rod home and just let you guys fish”. When I taught my daughters how to fish, I gave up on the concept of trying to fish myself. It’s basically impossible to do while untangling lines and answering a thousand questions. Let ‘em fish and have fun. 1 Quote
Sphynx Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Bit surprising to see smoking pop up so frequently on the list, I smoke a pipe and am rarely (never) without one on me and will frequently stop throughout the day to enjoy a puff and just soak up the scenery around me, I get the cigarette butt littering bit, but I find a person with a poorly maintained motor on a truck or a boat to be a far more obnoxious smell than the smell of tobacco, that is just me though. 2 Quote
wis bang Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Assinipink WMA is close to the state horse farm of NJ and the entire WMA is riddled with trails. You can be the only boat in the lake just fishing and at the point next to the ramp on a hot day when in comes the Calvary splashing down the ramp into the lake and then stare at you like you are some sort hindrance to their equestrian fantasies Quote

At my local pond, add massive wads of line (usually 50 lb mono or something similar), bread sacks, hot dog packages, and packaging for hilarious tackle (like steel leaders--at a pond with only bass and bluegill--and a Castaic 12" swimbait in a pond where the average bass runs about 8"). 1 1 Quote
