Live bait? You’re gonna catch a turtle guaranteed. I bet there’s over a hundred of turtles in this pond. Quote

Half of the overhanging line has junk hanging from it. 3 Quote

As I was making my way up and down fishing the boats, one of the boat owners, presumably, came up to me and told me "Cast 20 feet straight out from the end of the dock with a rubber worm, you'll hammer the bass." I wanted to say, "I know I what the bleep I'm doing, and if you did, you'd know that there are probably a dozen bass all around us just under our feet." But instead, I just said "Thanks". Ogandrews Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 Canada gooses chasing me has to be one of the worst things about shore fishing. They are the meanest animals in the country I swear, when they are in spawning season they will fly across a pond to try to bite you. Ive had one get me a couple times and it hurts like, well, a huge bird trying to kill you. My biggest pet peeve here is not strictly about shore fishing but it is uneducated people keeping everything they catch or keeping trophy fish. Pretty regularly around here you will see a guy that has no idea what he is doing get lucky and land a trophy pike or a musky and keep it. Musky here have to be 54” to keep and even then it is really looked down upon to do it. It is a shame that a 20+ year old fish has to die because some idiot wants some big mercury filled fillets or wants a skin mount on his wall instead of getting a replica that looks exactly the same. Same idea with walleyes here in the spring, you’ll see them keep 30-33” fish because “they need one for the wall” instead of getting a replica and keeping those genetics in the river. 3 Quote

First, that looks like a lot of Carolina/bottom rigs for catfish, and then some bobbers up there as well. Two, are people casting with that much arch? Piles of line laying around on the bank really bothers me. Not only is it litter, but it is especially deadly to animals and birds. I have been finding it (and picking it up) everywhere around my subdivision pond. Not just little bundles of line, but massive wads that must contain 50 yards or more of line. What dawned on me last time out, and what I don't understand--all the new Covid anglers are most often fishing spincasting reels or, occasionally, spinning reels. Obviously they don't backlash, so under what circumstances are you needing to peel 50 or 100 yards of line off your Zebco 33 while on the water? ? 1 Quote

I see this, too, and it absolutely mystifies me. What possible series of events could lead one to stripping a reel down to the arbor and just wadding the whole thing up? The other day I found evidence of a big fan of Ike's, I guess, because I found this random half of a fishing rod just laying on the bank when I filled a trash bag with other people's garbage. I'm getting real tired of being embarrassed by the people I share my hobbies with. 3 Quote
Super User Munkin Posted July 13, 2020 Super User Posted July 13, 2020 We have a local spot along a creek that is or at least was excellent fishing. Land up to the creek is private but the owner let anyone fish. Well people started leaving trash everywhere which upset him. He then posted signs that said it is private property and a privilege to fish there not a right so pick up your trash. He was ignored so the no trespassing no fishing signs went up and people got mad. Now you can fish there but you need to respectfully approach the owner and ask for permission. He is a nice gentleman but doesn't like his property being trashed. Allen 2 Quote

What drives me nuts is when a boater at the lake comes in on me like I'm not there. I never do that in my boat, if I see folks on the bank, I either give them a very wide berth or go somewhere else. That drives me nuts. Try fishing on the beach down here in Florida. I was out yesterday and literally had some guys in a boat crossing my line when i was on the beach. 1 Quote

schplurg Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Early this season I found an empty box that an Ugly Stik combo was sold in. A 3 foot long box, carried half a mile over a hill and dumped in a beautiful section of trees and shrubs. Oh ya, this one REALLY ticked me off. I'm fishing the creek and I see two Modelo 12 pack boxes on shore with empty cans inside, plus some other junk. It was a neat pile so I thought it was odd. Maybe someone was still using it. After awhile a guy comes walking up, tells me I'm in a good spot for fish, then grabs something out of the pile - a mostly eaten bag of crackers. I figure okay let's see if he comes back to grab his stuff, because I have him red-handed on camera. Very next day the pile is still there, only it's been kicked around to make a great mess. Unfortunately I'd deleted the video from the day before. I wanted to nail this guy on Youtube and show his face for all to see, but oh well. Far as I know it's all still there. I pick stuff up sometimes but this is a big pile. The guy was mid-thirties maybe, had a few nice rods and a good backpack - yet still a complete POS. 2 1 Quote

I feel that you can learn from anyone but there are certain people that go too far when giving advice. For example a person who has never caught a bass over 8 pounds should probably not be giving advice on how to catch 8 pound or bigger bass to someone who has caught many 8 pound or bigger bass. Also someone that has never caught a certain species of fish or has caught few of them should probably not give advice to someone who has caught hundreds of fish of that particular species. 1 Quote
galyonj Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 At a spot this morning. The coontail I can handle (which is good, because this place had a lot of the stuff), but the bonus 50 yards of line I pulled in along with it was annoying. I feel like this picture is fairly representative of what we're talking about in this thead. Not pictured is another massive ball of line I found. Heathens. 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted July 16, 2020 Super User Posted July 16, 2020 Went to a small bridge yesterday that goes over a slough on the Mississippi river .
