Bluegillslayer Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Trash left behind from people and when other "fishermen" (mostly young kids) get bored and begin fooling around, screaming, throwing things. And when people harass me for my fish especially when its a bass!!!! Also when people are bait fishing trout power balls and taking up the whole fishing spot leaving barely enough room to cast. 1 Quote
Derek1 Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Empty night crawler containers and drink bottles/cans have to be number one. Most of the time I bring a grocery store bag and fill it up on my way out. I haven’t had that problem lately though, every time I drive by 5 places there is already 10 people at every spot. So I drive back home. hashtag, go back to work. If your not working cause of the virus. Can you please fish in the morning. So the rest of us that still have to work, can fish in the afternoon when we get out. Quote
Born 2 fish Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Trash is my biggest issue. If you can carry a 6 pack to your spot you can carry it out. And fishing line everywhere I don’t understand how hard it is to pick up after yourself. Quote

Livebait fishermen and the bucket militia are the biggest offenders. Beyond that the thing that bothers me, especially when I am not catching anything, is that I left the magic bait at home. If only I had brought my entire collection of tackle I would be slaying them!!! You would need to drive a semi truck to the pond..... Quote
schplurg Posted June 25, 2020 Posted June 25, 2020 Trash, and I never get used to it. I get angry every time. I wanna blame certain groups of people for it, but I see all kinds of trash from all colors, races and age groups. I see chip bags with Asian writing, I see cans of beans and sardines, I see Modelo, Bud Light, Coors, water bottles, bass bait packages, live bait, socks, diapers...I want to blame the bucket brigade, or the immigrants that fish for food with no license, barbed hooks and live bait (all illegal at this spot) but it's everyone. Few weeks ago I saw a giant McDonald's cup on the trail. It was recently dumped as it was a hot day and the dirt was still very wet. I had just walked by this spot not twenty minutes earlier and it was not there. The only people that were around were a group of three teenagers who'd recently arrived. They must have dumped it. When I initially saw them I thought "Good to see kids having some honest fun for once". After seeing the cup I was so mad - I'll leave it at that. 2 Quote
galyonj Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 I forgot to mention jet skis in my earlier post. I hope only terrible things happen to people that own a jet ski. 2 Quote
cheezyridr Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 like all of us, i hate the trash and the inconsiderate people. but one thing i really hate is when some guy has 50 lb test wrapped around a 16oz. bud can, using a 3/4" nut for a sinker. fishing for carp. when he snags, he throws the whole mess into the river for me to snag later. Quote
garroyo130 Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Bank fishing or not, trash is the worst. I had to scoop up a couple of empty Googan baits packages this morning. Im pretty sure the same guy left a couple of crankbaits in trees because I didn't see them yesterday morning. I was only able to get one of them. 1 Quote

Hmmm. You just insulted most of us here. I sure hope that’s not true. I actually think there are more fishermen who will pick up trash than those who leave it. I bag some up almost every trip. I do agree though. Those who leave trash sure do a good (or bad!) job at it. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted June 26, 2020 Super User Posted June 26, 2020 Another thing I hate is drunk people fishing off the public dock...here is a story. A few summers ago im parked by the boat ramp and there are some drunk people fishing off the dock. No big deal they are yelling throwing crap at each other being drunk morons...but we've all been that guy at some point so I can handle it. I'm walking back to my truck and the drunkest guy outta the bunch is walking towards my truck...doesn't see me..so he decides to take a half full beer and bounce it off my back window. Well for a few seconds I considered tackling this guy and grinding his face in the gravel..just giving him the beating he clearly needs. But decide against it and go looking for a park official. I find one who is a buddy of mine I've known for 20 years almost..he calls the sheriff they send a deputy and arrest the guy for public intox. Now when I went home and told my girlfriend about how I handled it she said she was impressed with my restraint. I guess age and experience have a way of helping with that..she has helped me out tons in that regard. I did tell her that had this happened to me in my early to mid 20s that guy would be in a coma or bodybag. Honestly I'm glad I'm not that guy anymore. 2 Quote
Guitarfish Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Age does help with that, lol. People are going to tick you off no matter what. I remember going to the Delta years ago with my then 5 year old son. We were fishing our little 12 foot aluminum up against the tulies. I was tossing hair raisers trying to get something for the little guy to reel in, when a big ole cruiser came blasting thru at about 25 mph. He was throwing a 3-1/2 foot tall wake across the whole 35' wide channel. Looked right at me and just kept coming. I yelled to my boy to hang on just as the wake picked us up and threw the boat against the tulies. Didn't swamp us or get us wet even, just scared the bejeebus out of me. I followed the channel for about a mile trying to find him docked for some personal delivery, but calmed down before that happened and went back to fishing. My son just thought it was fun. He had the right attitude. 1 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 26, 2020 Super User Posted June 26, 2020 Dog walkers that do not have their pet on a leash. I fish at the river's edge off a walking trail. A few weeks ago a guy had his dog off the leash and it came charging down the hill at me. I saw it coming at the last second. It almost got a snoot full of pepper spray. I love dogs. their owners I am not crazy about. Trash is bad. Trash left by people fishing is worse IMO. 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted June 26, 2020 Super User Posted June 26, 2020 With the current situation lots of people that barely used to fish are now fishing often. A lot of those fishermen do not seem to care for the environment and they leave trash behind. These people are not real Outdoorsmen, they are just people who fish to have something to do. A real Outdoorsman respects the environment and makes sure to pick up any trash he has. 1 Quote
TcRoc Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 1. Trash left behind by well I would presume trashy people. 2. People (except for the angler that walks past and respects I’m already there.. maybe a quick chat and moves on. 3. When there is to scum on the water and no where to go. 4. People... again Quote
Super User king fisher Posted June 26, 2020 Super User Posted June 26, 2020 1. Fish feeding just outside of casting range. 2.. Fish feeding just outside my casting range after spending way to much money on a new rod and reel, to increase my casting range. 4., Guy in boat can only cast ten feet with a cheap rod and reel, but catches the fish feeding just outside my casting range. 5. Fish refusing to bite my lure. 6. My friend wanting to be lazy and watch TV on his day off rather than go fishing with me in his boat. 2 Quote

kayaking_kev Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 Of course the trash is a big problem, but one thing I haven't seen yet and this probably isn't just for bank anglers, but someone who catches a fish that looks about 2 lbs and starts yelling about how it's 5 lbs so everyone on the water can hear him and of course they never weigh it. There was a guy at a local reservoir telling everyone he caught a 8 lb spotted bass, when there isn't even any spotted bass in the place. He said the pros bring them from Kentucky Lake and put them there, when most State records for Spots aren't even 8 lbs. He has local people going around spreading the lie, I was even first told by a guy who asked if I heard about the 8 lb Largemouth caught the other day, and said some guy was at the local bait shop talking about it. A few days later I was at the boat ramp and I mention it and this guy that was there bank fishing, said it was him and that the DNR guy came and weighed it and told him it was a spotted bass. Two more days later, I'm out at 2 AM in my kayak half way across the reservoir fishing and some loud mouth shows up talking to himself loudly, 5 minutes after he gets there he starts screaming saying he just caught a 4 lb Smallmouth. I knew right then and there who exactly it was and only met the guy once. I also never heard a guy brag so much about his gear and it wasn't even the greatest, and then he started on how he made the spinner bait he was using. He was quite the character. Quote

Let them have a couple days/weeks of getting skunked/weak catches and things will be back to normal. I will say though I have been lucky in that although theres certainly more people on the water there isnt necessarily much increased fishing pressure here. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted June 27, 2020 Super User Posted June 27, 2020 People have been leaving still smoldering fires by some of the hike to fish places I visit. Today was the fourth time in the last two months I have had to put someone else’s fire out. 1 Quote
greentrout Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 a rude boater who does not obey the wake rules and leaves the fisherman from the bank with a roll of high waves breaking the bank ... good fishing ... Quote

Super User N Florida Mike Posted June 27, 2020 Super User Posted June 27, 2020 Being told to leave because its private property. Ive never had the police called on me once, which is a minor miracle. I have been threatened a lot though! I would never trespass in someones yard, but common areas and the occasional business park pond are fair game. I could write a book of stories about all the times I have been asked( or told) to leave. The older I get , the less it bothers me. And the less Im asked to leave. Maybe because Im looking more and more every day like the innocent grandpa type and so Im trusted more?? Quote
Revival Posted June 27, 2020 Posted June 27, 2020 I have a new one from today.... Get to the ponds at 5am when the gate opens. Was fishing my first spot for about 20 minutes, when this older gentleman stopped and started talking to me. Then he starts pounding his rod holders (for catfish) 3 feet to my left. He had tons of room to my left to set up. He was wearing a Vietnam Veteran hat so I just wished him good luck and moved. Quote
