Keefu13 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Hello! I am looking to get a reel for frogging and in my budget I am looking at these two. I will fish in semi to heavy cover. Which would you recommend? I am torn on which to buy! Thanks in advance! Quote
Super User Solution Tywithay Posted June 23, 2020 Super User Solution Posted June 23, 2020 Fuego. Not really much of a comparison, in my opinion. That Fuego compares favorably to pretty much any reel under $150 and some above that. 4 Quote
Keefu13 Posted June 23, 2020 Author Posted June 23, 2020 Thanks for the reply. Really it’s that good? I heard some Daiwas have had problems with parts maybe just rumors. Thanks for the info! how about in terms of drag comparison? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 23, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 23, 2020 Yeah this isn't even close, Fuego by a lot. 4 Quote

I haven't had problems with my Fuegos or any other Daiwas, but it's always a possibility. Pro max has a higher max drag at 18lb vs 13-14lb for the Fuego. Pro Max has a graphite frame and side plates, so I don't know how long it'd last buckled down. The Fuego drag is very smooth and strong enough for most applications. Can always upgrade to carbontex for relatively cheap if necessary. MagZ braking system is far superior to the static magnets on the Pro Max as well. As I said earlier, it's really not much of a comparison in my opinion. 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 23, 2020 Super User Posted June 23, 2020 My frog set up has a Fuego on it..Great reel, and the price is good too. 2 Quote

Reason I am asking about drag is because I mostly fish for snakeheads with frogs. The promax 18 lb drag is tempting, but as you have said Fuego is better I’ll probably go with the Fuego! Quote
PourMyOwn Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 I have both, and would also recommend the Fuego. 1 Quote

It is one of the easiest reels to find parts for. Thank you. I just order it on amazon. I live in Japan and the 7.3.1 gear ratio was on sale for 6800 which is 65 dollars. The left handed model was 90 bucks! Plus had a 20 buck credit card coupon so I got it for 49 bucks! Excited to use it! thanks everyone for all your help! Can’t wait for it to arrive! Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted June 23, 2020 Super User Posted June 23, 2020 I think you'll be very happy with that - my frog rig has a Fuego on it and I couldn't be more pleased with the performance/price point. 1 Quote

I buy all the time but am limited to shops that sell online and ship overseas. Yeah there is some around here. But it is turning into America. Japan’s amazon just cuts the prices so the local pro shops can’t compete. Sometimes they have sales to match amazons prices. There are used stores one close by, but I wanted a new reel which I got a great deal for. Someone I read online bought the same Fuego ct here in Japan used for 40 bucks. Quote
garroyo130 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 Im sure ill take some flak for this but after having fished both for several months now, I'd take a Fuego CT over my Curado K. It may not be as smooth but i prefer the overall feel of it. I also feel the braking system is a better match to how I cast, especially after flushing bearings. 2 Quote

This will be my first above start reel. Thanks for your input can’t wait to cast with it myself. Do you fish with the drag tightened all the way? Quote

Super User Tywithay Posted June 28, 2020 Super User Posted June 28, 2020 Sweet! Talking about tackle online is okay, but putting it in action is what it's all about. 1 Quote

Ogandrews Posted June 28, 2020 Posted June 28, 2020 Don’t overlook the slx or slx xt. Xt is barely different than a curado K, incredible reel for the price. Seems like most of the guys on this forum are Diawa fanboys but the slx and xt is an incredible deal for the price 1 Quote
