ghost Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 Caught my biggest bass this year, this past Saturday; let's say an early Father's Day present to myself. All I have to say is, the Dark Sleeper works! Used a 3/4oz clear chartreuse on my swimbait setup and hopped it a few times. Felt the hit set the hook and fought a beautiful 6lber. Last pic is a few weeks ago first time using the Dark Sleeper in 1/2 on my normal setup, on the fall before it hit the bottom. A 2-3lb bass nailed it. I'm still trying to find out what works best with the Dark Sleeper. Let it sink after the cast and hopping or slow roll. So far the fall and hopping has worked for me. These lures are not expensive especially from Megabass. I have to say the Dark Sleeper is durable. So far it's been my favorite lure next to the Whopper Plopper 110. 17 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 22, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 22, 2020 I haven't tried one yet. Found some "blanks", of them and bought a couple though. They were $2.50 or $3 each I think? Way cheaper than a regular Dark Sleeper. 1 1 Quote
Russ E Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 I mainly use 1/2 oz in the haze color. It looks similar to a bluegill. One thing I noticed with this bait, is the bass inhale it. Every fish I have caught with it was hooked deep. The bait is fairly durable. The eyes fall off after a couple fish, but that does not seem to matter. The one drawback of this bait is it hangs up in wood fairly easy. It works well around rock and weeds. 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 22, 2020 Super User Posted June 22, 2020 I use mostly the 3/4 oz, and Yes they do catch fish. Congratz on your PB.. 1 Quote
kayaking_kev Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 I have thrown my 1/2 oz haze a few times and didn't get good hook sets when I got bites and kind of lost confidence and haven't thrown it since. It could of been my technique or that the bass were just too small. Quote
EzyEric Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 I've been hearing nothing but good things so I picked up over winter too. I have the 1/2oz in Haze and I have noticed it does not stay down deep as well as I expected so I just ordered a 1oz version (Haze was out so I got the Donko color) I did catch a few fish last time I fished it though and both came on the fall instead of the slow retrieve. So i fished it more like a jig/worm the rest of the day. I really want to swim it along the deep weed lines in our clear natural lakes though so I am hoping the 1oz version allows me to do that better. 1 Quote
Tizi Posted June 22, 2020 Posted June 22, 2020 I agree, these are fantastic. I caught 2.5 lber on 3/8 haze last weekend. Had several followers. I slow roll and bounce them on bottom. Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 This one wanted the Dark Sleeper so bad it munched it even with a gullet full of jig. 3 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 23, 2020 Global Moderator Posted June 23, 2020 These are the blanks I picked up. One of these days I'll remember to actually fish them ? 2 1 Quote

The picture almost makes them look pearl. I know the perfect place for them right now, especially if fished more like a swimbait/swim jig. You mind sharing where you got them? 1 Quote
Revival Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 For those of you that like the 3/4oz, do you prefer the 3” or the 3.8” size? Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 23, 2020 Super User Posted June 23, 2020 I have both the 3 and 3.8 " . I tend to favor the bigger 3.8, but both catch fish. 1 Quote

EWREX Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 i have 3 in my box that i never use. i always tell myself i'm going to spend a day throwing them around and i never do. MAYBE THIS WEEKEND ? Quote
ghost Posted June 24, 2020 Author Posted June 24, 2020 In regards to the eyes falling off. What I've done is take clear nail polish and coated the eyes with a layer of clear. So far it seems to work that the eyes have not fallen off, even after a bass smashes the Dark Sleeper. Quote
Coonedawg Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 Fantastic bait around floating docks and Bream beds. I agree about it not being a fan of wood. I catch a good many on it reeling it in like a wobblehead jig or a crankbait. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 25, 2020 Super User Posted June 25, 2020 I think I have tried all of the available sizes and they all catch fish. The weirdest so far has been a drum. I caught several of these at 2lb or more. They are fun but what a junk fish. 1 Quote

I also have one 1/2oz that swims to the my right on retrieve as well thats a little annoying. Have around 10 others that I havent used/opened yet so dont know if any issues await with those. 1 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted June 26, 2020 Posted June 26, 2020 Ive been eyeballing them because I want some weedless prerigged soft swimbaits. I had a LiveTarget or was it Lunkerhunt, soft segmented swimbait that the hook tucked into the top fin that I really liked but lost it on a terrible cast into cat tails. Quote
