Hello Everyone,

I have question about line conditioners, are the good or they will effect the strength of line?

i am thinking to apply to my 40lb rest maxquatro braid that I got backlash each cast last night fishing and ruin my night.

i did have problem with heavy lures believe it or not, the line is so stiff I can feel that.

Thank You

I doubt anyone will know the answer to your question with any degree of certainty.  I stopped using line conditioner because I think it could weaken the line but again I don't have any definitive proof. I pretty much run braid exclusively so I don't change my line that often and don't really want to take any chances. I find that braid loosens up after it's been used a bit and conditioner isn't really necessary at that point anyway.

Depending on what is used as a line conditioner it shouldn't have any affect on the strength of braid made of polyester fiber.

Braid The Professor is good, Blakemoore Real Magic isn't.

Unfortunately I bought the blackemoore reel magic, now I need to change all my lines and get new conditioner, or I go with 30lb test. Thanks for info

No need to change all your line, just continue to fish.

Don’t waste your line but ditch the reel magic. It’s just silicone like WD40. They contain petroleum distillates that actually slightly degrade the line. KVD line and lure is a copolymer that coats the line. Good for taming coils of mono and fluorocarbon. I’m not sure what it will do for braid.

Agree don't change the line. Clean the line by running through a rag soaked in denatured alcohol or silicone spray while rewinding it back on the reel.

Real Magic tends to turn reel lubricants into gel, not good.

'Line conditioner' is just quick detailer, and should nourish your line and offer uv blocking properties .  I use it on my  reels, rods, and line...really everything plastic or painted I own.  I'm using megiars at the moment.

Only ever used KVD L&L and have been very happy with it for years.  It works for me for the reasons DVT pointed out.  Don't know if it is why I have never had a problem with flouro carbon, or not, but only know that on the reels spooled with flouro it has never been a problem.   It is a hydrophobic substance.

KVD is all I use on both mono and Yo-Zuri Hybrid. I don't use FC, so no idea how well it works on that. Haven't seen the need to use it on braid, as mentioned earlier in the thread, braid gets limper after a while all on its own.

Been using KVD on the copolymer on my baitcaster this year. I can't detect any line weakening. It definitely seems to help with casting distance and also, could be my placebo perception, but seems like backlashes have been a little easier to pick out when regularly using it (just as I say that I'll get the mother of all birds nests next time out LOL).

No experience using it on braid, though it says it works on braid as well.

I use line conditioners frequently.  Spring through fall - I use the KVD line treatment.  This. treatment is water based.   Early spring & Late fall I've had that stuff freeze on my reel and so, in those conditions, I use Reel Magic.   I get that it degrades the line, but it also works in chilly conditions.  So, that 's the trade off.

It’s cheap enough to try. I’ve only used KVD and Reel Snot. To me they work equally as well. I’m so anal about changing my line that I’m not really giving line conditioner a chance to work.

I give it another spray if the backlash is deep. Seems to come out easier.
