Super User Darren. Posted June 24, 2020 Super User Posted June 24, 2020 Welp...one man's experience trounces another man's opinion...or vice versa...LOL. Here's my opinion. I use braided mainline on every one of my rigs. Today I use 97% spinning setups with 10, but mostly 15# Power Pro Super Slick 8 line (got a great deal on 1500 yards years back). On my now lone baitcast setup (Shimano Chronarch 50e upgraded to 7.1:1 ratio gearing) I use 20# regular yellow Power Pro. I switch between a M and ML rod depending on what I want to throw. And I always use a leader. Why? Braid is expensive (for me), and it is awesome for line management. So with tying on a leader of either fluorocarbon or copolymer line, I can limit the amount of times I cut into my braid mainline on a given outing when changing hooks, etc. While knots may be the weak point, I rarely struggle with a uni-to-uni tied to 6, 8, or 10# leader (sometimes as low as 4 or high as 15#). That's my go-to knot, and yes, I've tried the FG. Not my cup of tea. Mod'd Albright/Alberto is a great one, too. Good luck! 2 1 Quote

The knot doesn’t bother me, and the yellow braid is easy to see in the water. Reason I use mono instead of fluorocarbon is I have the mono on hand! Quote

Is it as slim/small as a blood knot, and go through the guides easily? Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted July 14, 2020 Super User Posted July 14, 2020 I will answer without reading the rest of the posts, so hopefully won't duplicate too much. My Setups Baitcasters - I use either 30# Suffix 832 or 50# Power Pro on all but one that I have been trying Yo Zuri Hybird on, don't like the lack of feel but otherwise it is ok line. For baits like swim jigs I will use 20# sniper FC leader tied with a modified alberto knot which is 6-12 feet long. Spinning - 10# or 20# fireline with 6-12 ft red label FC leader also tied with a modified alberto knot. Fireline has been my goto spinning setup since I came out. I tried other braids but have had zero reason to change. I know fireline is not technically a braid, but its sensitivity is right there with any braid I have ever fished. Great line, hope Berkley makes it forever! Performance with old rods has been good for me. The only rod I ever had an issue with was one that had plastic line guides. What I have noticed with braid compared to mono or the yo zuri hybrid, is the sensitivity is increased exponentially. You will think that you upgraded rods with the switch. That is the biggest problem I have had when I tried straight Fluoro, I really missed the sensitivity of braid, especially for bottom contact baits. Biggest tip with braid - Loosen the drag due to the zero stretch. I also like moderate action rods and feel they suit braid very well. Older rods generally seem to run more of a moderate actions, so they may work even better than the newer faster tip models. 1 Quote

Google it; number of descriptions on the internet. 1 Quote
