I see they are starting to sell these all off. I was thinking about buying one. For those who might have, or know of these reels, what do you think of them?

Thanks!

They’re basically curado i’s...I forget what the differences are but there are a few here and there.

They’re solid reels, though. At this point, I think it’s safe to say the I series has stood the test time. I still use and love the curado 70 (I’ve seen those on sale lately too). But the citica is a good reel. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed

I have a 2018 Citica 201. I tried fishing straight out of the box with 12 lb mono, it felt like I had spooled up 50 lb mono on it. Casting was Short, and not very smooth at all.

So, I pulled the side plate off, and added a drop of oil on the spool shaft bearings. Wiped all the grease off the level wind, and put a couple of drops of oil on it. Worked the oil in by just cranking it about 20 times, then put it free spool and spun the spool by hand, what a difference, the spool will spin for days now, it feels really buttery and cast's like a dream, in fact reminds me of my old Curado E7, which was made in Japan.

Overall, I now like this reel, I thought about selling it, not anymore. I would just say, give it a good clean, and oil, for good performance.

On Edit: Didn't notice you asked about the HG..mine is Not the HG...sorry.

Great reel, if you are in need of a 7 speed reel, this is a great choice. I think theres just missing a bearing or two over the curado I and that's the only difference. I had both and they fished identically.

The Citica I is exactly the same as the Curado I except for 3 of the bearings aren't shimanos SR-AB (corrosion resistant) bearings. And the spool is only anodized once and not twice like on the Curado.

I had two of them and they preformed just as well as my Curado I's and never had any problems with them wearing or going geary after heavy use on a crankbait rod and frog rod for three seasons. The only thing I had to replace was two of the break blocks because they had worn. If you can find then cheap they worth the buy. I payed $80 for mine new during a close out.

Edit: after looking at the schematics the AR clutch is a different part number, don't know if there is an actually difference in quality.
