Split shots? Nah, forget it. Sold out everywhere. Lame. Can't even get the simplest of things.

I guess I was wrong. I didn't think that it was possible for all the fishing stuff to be bought up. But it looks like all the retailers are in the same boat. But I don't understand who would buy 50lb big game line from Walmart. What kind of fish are they trying to catch?

From the looks of the numerous wads of line being left around my subdivision HOA pond these past couple of months, I would say they're after dink bass and undernourished bluegill ??

Just for the record, from the litter around the pond I have also deduced that they are after these same monstrous sized prey using a 12" Castaic swimbait and Ol' Monster 10" worms ?

For someone starting out, the 50# test cost the same as the 10# test, so they think they're getting a deal on the 50#.

It would be good for someone to do an investigative article about it. Do some calling around up the food chain to see what’s going on. Has anyone seen any articles about it on other sites?

I’ve been wondering where the problem is in the supply chain. Are manufacturers closed down? Is anything getting manufactured? Distributors scared to stock? Retailers scared, or unable to afford, to stock? Can the Chinese really not get anything shipped? Plenty of people are available to work here.

Everyone should listen to the BTL episode that was on this morning.  They interview Ken Duke and talk about the tackle industry and what it's going through right now.  It may answer some questions for some.

They don't talk about it until around 50 minutes into the show, and then only talk about it for about 10 minutes. To sum up his answer: it's complicated. He said some manufacturing was interrupted of course, orders couldn't be filled at the peak of the season, and then some wholesalers/retailers didn't want to buy it once it became available because they only buy at a certain time of year, or because of fear or crackdowns on purchasing from above. Some items like reels are even more complicated because of parts coming from multiple locations. He didn't offer any forecast, or at least I didn't hear it. I did a lot of fast-forwarding so I might have missed it.

The USCMA, formerly NAFTA, kicks in today and it will make this situation a little worse IMO...I think it is GREAT long term, as it will bring a level of manufacturing back to the US, but it will also increase the price and lead times of products.

I dont know how much it will affect the terminal tackle...rods,reels,lines and lures, but we will find out about 6 months after this Covid thing goes away.

Fisherman's Central website!  They are a local place to me, was in there the other day and it is stocked to the gills!

I agree. The guys at FC make sure the store is stocked at any and all costs. Gets awful expensive only being 15 minutes away

My topwater baits are getting a workout. Whopper Ploppers, Poppers and spooks. Only lost one this year when my son's line snapped and we watched the lure float down the river.

They don't have to be restocked. Just sharpen the hooks every once in awhile and they are good to go.

Split shot, light wire Aberdeen hooks and snap swivels are almost impossible to find around here.

Circling back on this as we all know how bare retailers were of certain items this past season.  I had to resort to buying items online instead of in person.

Well for the first time in months I stepped foot into a retail sporting goods store today. I was pleasantly surprised. Mostly full pegs and a great selection. Whether it stays that way I don’t know but it appears that they may finally be catching up again.

Tackle at all of my local big box stores  has been replaced. Lower end  Rods and reels at the big box places like Walmart, miejers and other is stocked.  Cabelas in Saginaw after having zero spinning reels or bait casters over Christmas is still bare.

Shelves are stocked here. I am going to start buying some terminal tackle every week to get ready for ice out.

In these conditions the options are to find local alternatives and resign ones self to the probability that you'll pay a bit more supporting a smaller business, to manufacture the required lures yourself (necessity is, after all, the mother of invention) or to simply possess your soul in patience and wait for products to become available at the usual suspects again, it really has been some tough sledding and I certainly sympathize with this particular struggle, been tough going finding much of what I have been looking for as well, I generally am on the 3rd option I listed, and have simply begun to focus on the things I can control, and let the things that I cannot control look after themselves.

Thorne bros reloaded a long time ago.  Great to see them have a terrific year.  Awesome store.

My local shop has been good through all of this!  They got low but never ran completely out of anything!
