Chet C Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Friday i will be shopping for some tackle at either Cabela's in Hamburg PA or Bass Pro Shops in Harrisburg PA, any suggestions which one would have more fishing tackle in stock not including plastics, i have enough of them, mainly lures and rods, reels, hooks ect/ chet Quote
collards Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Hamburg is larger, but the inventory has been down even before the virus. They normally have a good selection of hooks and rods & reels. I'm sorry, but you will have to take a chance. If it is Cabelas go to 3cs family restaurant outside of Hamburg. You can eat out by the river. Very peaceful and they offer old time style breakfasts. EWREX Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I have both a BPS and a Cabelas exactly a half hour away from where I live, but in opposite directions. The stock at the BPS is absolutely PATHETIC as their racks are constantly empty for days and sometimes weeks. The only time I shop at BPS is if I need something immediate that I cannot get anywhere else in time, which rarely works out because their inventory is a disgrace. I've been to the Cabelas a handful of times and NEVER had an issue with finding anything that I need or want. 1 Quote
Dyna7329 Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I live 25 minutes from Cabela's in Hamburg and I'm always disappointed in their stock. Was just out there Tuesday and couldn't find what I needed. IMO, Wacky Worm blows them both away in terms of selection of lures, terminal, rods and reels. Plus, they're having their annual sale June 18 - 20, 20% OFF the entire store. Store will be open 9am - 6pm during the sale and the address is 1222 Interchange Rd, Gilbert, PA 18331 2 Quote
D_Stephenson Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Both of them in my area of NC are nearly depleted. It looks like there was a Black Friday sale, every day, for the last 2 months. According to the section manager they are receiving about 10% of their usual restocking orders. I guess that shows that most everything they're getting is coming from China. It's hung up on cargo ships...somewhere. But it's about the same at my local Walmart. 75% of the fishing section is wiped out. No stock coming in and suddenly everyone furloughed and stuck at home has either rediscovered fishing or everyone that does fish, is doing it a lot more. Quote
GReb Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Academy and bass pro here are completely wiped out. You can’t even find a zoom lizard at the moment Quote

I am in the same situation but in Illinois. half hour in opposite directions, Cabela's is horrible, even things they say are in stock are not, shelves half empty. BassPro is better here. 2 Quote
Lobocito Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 You can check inventory before you go for both cabelas and bass pro online if there is anything in particular you need. Fishing gear is selling out quick everywhere though. My local dick's usually stays well stocked and they have maybe 15 rods left and some senkos and almost nothing else. That said I can barely shop at BPS anymore, even before the virus. The ones near me barely stock anything from my favorite brands (almost no duckets or dobyns for rods, almost no z-man, zero keitech) and instead just super aggressively push their own branded stuff. Also last 2 times I went I was practically chased around the store by a woman trying to get me to sign up for a credit card even after I made extremely clear to her I had absolutely zero interest. You probably won't find much if you just go to browse. Tackle Warehouse is shipping slow but at least you get exactly what you need 1 Quote
r3825 Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 You can shop online at Bass Pro and pick up same day from in store inventory, see if they have what you want Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted June 19, 2020 Super User Posted June 19, 2020 The two Cabela's near me always have low stock, even before the pandemic. Pretty pathetic that a company that size can be that bad at in-stock management. I'll only shop there if I'm in a pinch and need something...but they're usually out of what I'm looking for anyways. Gander (great in-store stock, bad online selection) and Fleet Farm usually have a better selection than Cabela's. Quote
Wacked worm Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 Id definitely recommend the Hamburg Cabelas over the Bass Pro. The fishing section is probably 25% or more bigger at the Cabelas. Its the same distance for me as well and vary between the two. I enjoy the BassPro just for the Chinese restaurant just on the other end of the lot. Quote
Super User Catt Posted June 19, 2020 Super User Posted June 19, 2020 Our nearest Bass Pro Shop is in Denham Springs, La & 41 minutes away is Cabelas in Gonzales, La. Both are 2 hrs 20 minutes from where I live. I'll get 2 or 3 buddies & their wives and make a day of it hitting both. The wives hit nearby stores & then we meet up at our favorite restaurant. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 19, 2020 Super User Posted June 19, 2020 I wouldn't walk into either BPS or Cabela's after BPS bought out Cabela's and closed down their headquarters in Sidney NB devastating the town. Tom 5 Quote

TriStateBassin106 Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Bass Pro has better deals, I also have a bias against cabelas right now because they keep giving me the run around about my Pelican Bass Raider I ordered.. Quote

Captain Phil Posted June 20, 2020 Posted June 20, 2020 Bass Pro Shop has always had an inventory problem. They always seem to be out of everything you want. They have lots of shirts, hats and boat shoes. The drive to Bass Pro is about an hour from my home. I rarely go there unless it's to buy a rod. I have never had a problem ordering from Bass Pro online. With all the mall closings, I wouldn't be surprised to see some BPS stores close as well. Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted June 20, 2020 Super User Posted June 20, 2020 I am about 5 miles from a Cabelas. I very rarely go there. It is a smaller store compared to some so it can't stock everything. If I do need something it is rare they have it in stock. Checking store inventory online is a joke. Often times it says something is there only to find it is not. Quote

Lou and his wife and great people and run a fantastic business. He's incredibly knowledgeable and will share any info he has on local reports and he won't try to sell you something you don't need. They have a two week annual spring sale in late Feb / early March, same deal 20% off the store. Enjoy the new gear! Quote
Eric Matechak Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 both are great in-person stores. the best online selection IMO is Tackle Warehouse and it isn't even close Quote
rtwvumtneer6 Posted June 21, 2020 Posted June 21, 2020 Not sure where you are coming from but Susquehanna Fishing Tackle is prob 40 minutes from Harrisburg and maybe an hour from Hamburg. https://sfttackle.com/ You can always call ahead and make your decision based on the info you get over the phone.
