Blacktail 8541 Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 I had a pair of GLoomis 843 GLX rods, 1 older series and the new series. Bothe with Diawa Steez svtw 's. Gave the older model to my brother so that he would get to experience what a nice rod feels like. Had it for a month and some one decided they needed it more than him. He went and replaced it with a new 843 GLX. I plan on getting a new 843 Conquest. 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted June 21, 2020 Super User Posted June 21, 2020 There are too many rods I want to try to ever buy an exact duplicate, but I have ended up with three Loomis MBR 3 powers that form the core of my kayak arsenal. 1 Quote

Tom I do this. I'm extremely OCD. I always buy in pairs. Rods dont need to be the same model, just look the same. Quote
Super User Spankey Posted June 23, 2020 Super User Posted June 23, 2020 I just got delivery on my second “Winch” reel. I kicking on going up to MH Power on this one just because it will let me go to 1 oz. baits. I have No real plans on tossing that heavy yet but deeper cranking is how I’ve been headed the last few seasons. I hate to buy the rod untouched but in my area it’s gonna be tough to find it. I’m 100% satisfied with the medium power moderate action I’m using now but my mind is telling me to go up a power size. Abu Garcia is one of the few that I like the feel of the moderate action. Quote
Manifestgtr Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 I don’t have any exact duplicates at the moment. A lot of my setups are “fine tuned” with a slightly different spec rod or something like that. I have different versions of the same setup if that makes sense. Now please, don’t read this to mean “yeahhh, that’s right...that’s how good I am...what do you think of that”. I know how things can come across on the internet sometimes. Trust me...I’d get smoked and embarrassed by even the lowest level pro and indeed, many other amateurs. I just like to dedicate combos and try new things. A couple rigs I’d like to eventually duplicate are my cnq 844/metanium and my legend x 68mxf/aldebaran. I feel like those combos are the pinnacle for their intended purposes. Nothing throws a jig like the 844 and nothing works a fluke like the tip on the mxf...at least not that I’ve found. Those are rigs I’d duplicate in a heartbeat if I came across the right deal. Quote

I have two spinning rigs set up for finesse - Pres-25 on Fury 702, Avocet RZ-2000 on ML/F Avocet. Two BC rigs set up for general use - Supreme on Aird-X MH/F, Pres-XT on Laguna MH/F Two crankbait rigs - that can be used for other things as well - Fuego on Fury 705CB and Trion-35 on Okuma Stratus VI MH/M As you can tell, I'm on a budget, so do the best I can with limited resources. Nah man... alot of us have that mindset oh having set ups specifically selected for different techniques. Probably why I only have 1 duplicate set. But different strokes for different folks. Alot of the guys that post kn this thread are awesome fishermen and have multiple duplicates, and there are some like you and me that barely have any. I have friend that I used to fish with alot that will not spend more than 75 bucks or so on a rod or a reel and he places in top 3 frequently of alot of tournaments...if you are good you are good. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted June 23, 2020 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2020 On a different note, my striper/inshore rods are set ups are all the same. 3- duckett inshore 7'0 MH 3- ducket inshore 7'6MH All have a and abu c4 5600 25 lb big game on all of them. Wasnt a ducket follower, but got all those rods for half of what they cost...they do well for me. I like that the handle is shorter than what I used to have. Picked up 4 of the c4s years ago at a garage sale from an angry woman. Quote

Vilas15 Posted June 23, 2020 Posted June 23, 2020 No. Only take 4 with me, 2 spinning and 2 casting. I could get a few more before needing to double up. If I dont feel like retying then it's a perfect time to switch baits/rods unless i was catching fish before i broke it off. Even then I dont fish tournaments so i can take the 1 minute to retie. Might have another for the 2020 to put my stella fj on. Quote
