Bass Pro Johnny Moriss rods like Carbonlite, Signature Series, Patriot etc are rarely compared to - Shimano, Daiwa, Duckett, St Coix etc.Ijhave Cronlite  rods (black and CBlite 2), Fenwick and recently bought a Shimano Exdpride.  I often wonder what some of my fellow fisherman think of the BCP brand rods. Tackle Warehouse and stores like that never compare the BCP rods because they don't sell those rods.

The one I have have stood up over time  but curious about other's opinions on sensitivity etc. I have had no breakage  issues with either the casting or spinning models.

Just asking the community their thoughts on the Carbonlite and up series of rods.  I may have spent to much on my Expride??????

Your thoughts please

I have not bought any since I have no way of knowing who has the current contract to make them.

They're good enough for me.  But then again, I'm that guy who's not really convinced that super expensive rods actually translate to more fish or a better fishing experience.  There's a level of quality you want to pass.  A bad rod can hold you back.  But after you pass that threshold, I think you tend to pay for things that matter more in the store than on the water.  That's my opinion anyway, and I bet I'm in the minority here.

Having said that, I don't think that BPS and Cabela's house brands are leading the race in value anymore.  There are so many good other house brands and companies online that specialize in value that they kind of blend in with the rest of the pack out there.  The one good thing about them is, you can try them out in the store before you buy.  And when buying value priced stuff, it's always good to inspect them before you buy them.  Plus, their return policy is great.  And that's also important for value priced merchandise, as your return rate will probably be higher than with premium goods.

I disagree with the above statements.  Ive fished several different brands over the years and i personally don't think you're gonna beat the value of the cabelas, bps brand rods. Ive got several cabelas tournament zx rods, a cple of the carbonlite 2.0 and a pro qualifier.  All excellent rods especially at the prices i paid. I rarely pay retail so for the sale prices they are often ran at i haven't personally seen an equal.  Ive fished some st croix, cple of the older loomis, falcon, 13, garcia, halo, and shimano for reference.  Obviously people have varying opinions but in my experience to get a rod from the big names in fishing rods that performs as well as what i have id have to spend considerably more $. If they're not your cup of tea don't buy em. Just don't overlook then because of the name on em. I also love that I can ride 15 minutes to cabelas and have a new rod rather than having to ship and pay fees etc.

I would put the bps Patriot up against any rod. its light but strong and sensative and its well balanced. it has a 10 year warranty at no cost. it has fuji sci guides which are some of the best made. bps rods have recently won the bassmaster classic so how bad can they be ? i think most people who knock them have probably never used them. i also have the signature series rods.they are another awesome rod. ive owned st croix and loomis and didnt really think they were any better.for the money i dont think you can buy a better rod. read the reviews for the patriot they are all positive.

The Patriot rods are very good, but at the same time they are $200. I would expect any rod to perform really well for that price.

I have owned and really liked Fenwick hmg and st croix Mojo and avid x. I have replaced them with BPS Carbonlites 2.0 and have no regrets. They are my favorite rods. Have them paired with Shimano stradic FL and Curado k. Perfect combos for me.

My old "Extreme" with the Power Hump is still my favorite rod

Perfect throw in the back of a pick up truck for that just in case situation fishing rod, and usually on sale which is a plus.

I had some way back in the day as a kid on a budget, they worked adequately then, I dont see why they wouldn't be just as sufficient today.

I have a few of the Green BPS Extreme rods.   They ain't in the starting line up anymore, but they are in the "next rod up slot" for buzz baits, double buzzers & square bills.  Sooner or later one of the starters will break and the BPS Extreme will get another chance to be an "oldie but goodie".

Naw.....my extreme rod is certainly not the "best" rod I have, but it was the first "good" rod I ever had.  I bought it with a PQ (still on it) about 12 years ago.  It and the reel have served me well.  My PB was caught on it.  I've caught bass, catfish and pike on it.  I've frogged with it and thrown finesse stuff with it.  It feels like an extension of my central nervous system.  It is edging towards retirement as I get more dedicated equipment but it still serves as my "all-purpose" rod for when I'm throwing stuff I don't throw enough to have a dedicated set up for.  I love it and the day I break it will be a sad one indeed.  I should also point out that that PQ has only gotten better with a little maintenance and care.  It will also cast further and smoother than any other reel I have.  I just got a good one that day.

I have 3 of the Xtreme rods. They are inching into retirement for me also, but I still use them often. Like Jaderose said they are good all purpose rods, I will use them for moving baits like SB, Underspins, & boot tail swimbaits on weighted hooks.

The drawback with them is the rating system. It’s simply H, MH, Med., etc. From my experience their tips are on the heavy side of each rating.

I don't disagree with anything you said here, except for the "don't think you're gonna beat the value" part.  I've got a Kastking Perigree II rod that's equal to my Pro Qualifier 2 in quality and feel, only it's ever-so slightly heavier, half the list price, and comes with two tips (I only fish two piece rods because I drive a coupe).  I still love my PQ2 though, and still believe it's an awesome value.

Gonna hurt some feelings, I would be put 100$ daiwa products or Shimano products up against anything bps.... today 2020, I have zero confidence in anything they brand and put out.  I'll buy an aird x or slx, before I touch their stuff.  I don't trust it

I could be and might be wrong, but that's ok.

Thanks guys..I really appreciate the feedback. MY personal best (10lbs 8oz) was caught on a Carbonlite MH (black model) with a PQ n it.  I don't regret having at least 8 of these in my fishing arsenal.  I get out quite often since here in AZ we have the ability to wet a line 12 months of the year, not always productive... but hey I'm out fishing.. a sandwich, cigar, and sun sometimes interrupted by a fish tugging on my line..now that's living.

I'd love to read more opinions... again..many thanks

Most of the bps products in this thread are made by the same companies they're being compared to. Only difference with the house items is they go on sale more often. At 50% off, they're a great value. At retail, they're pretty much the same as any pure fishing item of similar cost.

I have had 3 pro qualifiers, 1 carbonlight, 2 signature titanium 8’s, 2 signature size 30’s, and a platinum, all baitcasters. Also lots of crbonlight rods and signature rods. The pro qualifiers still function well after 8-10 years. The carbonlights cast really well as do all the others above the pro qualifier price range. I have never had a single problem with any of them. And I do almost no maintenance for them. Just bought my first non bps setup this week, a daiwa lexa 300 hd paired with the 2020 st croix mojo musky rod as my finesse musky setup. I always bought these bps products at either Black Friday sale or spring classic sale so the price was reduced heavily. For the reduced price, not sure there are better values.

I started on BPS Extreme combos. The reels at the time were close cousins to th pfluger trion baitcasting reel and the rods were heavy but pretty well made at the time. The Rick clunn rods and reels were a good value also.I agree that the quality on some of their products had slipped some. The carbonlites feel pretty nice in the store, but the reel seat seems suspect to me. Still I’ve thought about trying one. The patriot rods feel very nice! Refreshing to see a USA made rod at $200.  Like others have said, the market is and has been flooded with great options.

I liked the feel of my Extreme rods so much that instead of phasing them out of the lineup, I stripped them down to bare graphite and rebuilt them. The H is an EXCELLENT frog rod.

I absolutely love my 6’9 mh f carbon light rod and reel 2.0 combo. It is light and very sensitive the reel is 8:1:1.I will be buying more of those when I need another jig or t-rig rod.  When I bought the combo last year it was my most expensive.  I have now more expensive set ups but, I really like the carbon light 2.0

I like spinning version too but, the only thing I noticed at Cabelas in Saginaw is that in those you have to make sure the bottom eye is inline with the rest.  I saw 4-5 of them with a crooked bottom eye
