What's more important when out on the water? Numbers or Size?

Would you take a day of catching a couple dozen 1 to 2lbers or rather catch only a handful of bigger fish?

I'm personally on the side of catching numbers, even if they're dinks, I love the fight some will have and the fact that i'm figuring out a pattern, only because I'm still somewhat new to this thing and I'm trying to build confidence in Lures I throw.

What about you guys?

I like them all but I really am a numbers guy.

Same here man, especially after a skunk streak, I would take a whole day of catching 3 to 5lbers don't get me wrong but the fact that I have fish biting my lures despite being smaller in size is enough for me. :)

Size for me I've caught plenty of small bass in my life. But I prefer to target large fish. I’d rather catch one 5 lbr over 20 1 lbr s.

The thing that keeps us fishing is the hope that the next one will be a biggun'

I begin every day with the same attitude, "Go big, or Go home".

Before day's end however, that attitude is subject to change  :embarassed:

Went fishing today. Caught 19. Only 4 were keepers. Still, I came home a very happy fisherman.    jj

Good question. When bowhunting bucks, it’s easy (seriously lol) to pass on spikes, forkies, little sixes and eight pointers and hold out for a P&Y-class 8 or 10. Shoot a small buck and likely your season is over. You may not arrow a big buck, but you definitely won’t if you tag out quick on a small buck.

Bass? While you can definitely target lunkers, you can also be using smaller baits and catching smaller bass and still hook a big gal. It’s not a “one and done” deal.

Of course I want to catch huge bass. But I think overall I’d be happy catching several 2-3 lb’ers vs maybe catching one over 6 lbs. But you could catch 7-8 smaller bass and still have a chance of hooking a monster. That’s the beauty of it!

I'll take (1) 5lb bass over (25) 1lb bass everytime.

But if I can't catch a good one I'm willing to negotiate.

Numbers (of keepers).

I wont be satisfied with 100 dinks but im also not going out every outing pursuing only 10lb + bass and being happy catching 1 of those a month.

I’ve been retired for 12yrs. For the first ten, I concentrated on big fish, I’d catch a few small ones on occasion  The big ones were BIG, but few and the majority of outings I went fishless and many times without even a bite.

i’ve gone back to fishing for bass, all bass. The chances of my catching a truly big bass are now whete near what they were, but i’ve proved to myself that, if I want to, I can catch the big girls.

Depends on the water I'm fishing and the mood I'm in. Yesterday I caught a dozen <1.5 pound lm and sm while wading a creek and had a blast. On the flip side, Friday night and Saturday morning I fished a small lake that has numerous 5+ pounders and was disappointed with the 2 pounders I caught.

There are days I prefer catching lots of bass and other days I prefer catching big bass.

Catching my PB was a total rush, I'd have to catch a lot of small ones to achieve a similar feeling.

But I'm with Tom - numbers of big ones :) It's what I hope for when I leave the house.

I like to catch trophy bass and my approach revolves around it.

Though it can happen all season long, specific seasonal periods historically produce better results.

In between, I fish for the best I can do at the time.

But really do spend much more time on the water during the peak big fish periods.

On Saturday I fished a new lake and caught 38 bass in 3.5 hours. The biggest was a 14" smallmouth just under 2 pounds.

I've fished for 12 hours and only caught one 4 pounder and felt more satisfied.

Not saying its right or wrong or that I'm not happy catching lots of fish, but I'd trade 100 1-2 lbers for a single 4+ lber... You throw some 3 lbers into the 1-2 lb mix and then I might tell you something different.

I've been blessed to do most of my fishing in lagoons where catching anything under 3 pounds is a disappointment. That being said, there were some lagoons where you could catch one pounders on what seemed like every cast. I would take my son to those when he was younger and catching numbers kept him excited about fishing. I never really enjoyed fishing those lagoons.

If I hit the banks for 3 or 4 hours I'm happy to come out of there with 3-6 LMB between 4 and 6 pounds. That's when I feel like I accomplished something.

Handful of bigguns?

I go out hoping for that one big bite, anything extra is just a bonus. Numbers happen sometimes while searching for the big one, but dinks aren't nearly as exciting as catching a big one.

I go out to catch bass.  Most of my catches will be around a pound and I'm OK with that.  Then I look back at my log and decide I have caught enough small bass it's time for some hawgs.

I go both ways.? When fishing alone I normally throw big baits. When I take someone that doesn't fish much it's all about numbers.
